Deconstructed Character Archetype in this series.
  • Big Good, The Paragon, and Showy Invincible Hero is deconstructed with All Might. While All Might is one of the world's greatest heroes, the illusion that he is an unbeatable, perfect paragon is something that even he cannot live up to. He is still human, and like anyone, he has negative traits and make mistakes. This would normally be fineā€¦ if the image of him being perfect didn't exaggerate these flaws to be more than they actually are. As such, when he gives Izuku Midoriya well meaning but ultimately tactless advice to give up on being a hero, this ends up being the final push to put Midoriya on his Start of Darkness and causes the boy to despise All Might, viewing him as a lying, arrogant hypocrite, as the hero was once quirkless and is famous for claiming that anyone could be a hero. This only gets worse for him when Midoriya reveals All Might's past and weakened form to the general public. Almost instantly, All Might is put in a purely negative light by the majority of the population, with everything he had done for Japan being overlooked in favor of an image of a man who actively played a part in the social ostracization and discrimination of those who lacked useful, non-villainous quirks, if they had any at all, in spite of being one himself, which gets more widespread when Midoriya gains a governmental position and actively solves these issues. By the time All Might has his supposed final battle against Midoriya, in the public's eye the battle looks less like "The heroic Big Good makes a Last Stand against the Big Bad" and more like "The lying false hero who thrived in a broken system attempts to brutalize the only person who is trying to fix the damn system in the first place."
  • Katsuki Bakugou:
    • Hair-Trigger Temper: Bakugou has the tendency to fly into a rage at the slightest provocation, possesses numerous berserk buttons and generally responses to any problem with violence. The result? An easily manipulated dumbass who cannot consider the consequences of his actions and will attack his source of ire just because they slightly provoked him, even if doing so will ruin a well thought out plan or get him arrested due to assaulting a important figure.
    • Butt-Monkey and Jobber: Almost nothing goes right for Bakugou in this fic, with his only genuine win being his offscreen victory of the Sports Festival against a half powered Todoroki. He loses every fight he participates in, no shortage of people call him out on his attitude and role in driving Midoriya to villainy, and he eventually loses the friends he made at U.A., including Kirishima, due to his attitude and past as a bully. All of this is shown to have a severe effect on Bakugou's mental health, increasing his inferiority complex and guilt and making him desperate to beat Midoriya so that everyone could forgive him. This leads to him making the immensely boneheaded decision to join All Might in his final battle against Midoriya despite the former's order to stay away, without any real way to match Midoriya in power or assist All Might. Unsurprisingly, he never even makes it to Midoriya, gets his ass kicked by Todoroki, and, despite escaping, is declared a fugitive and does nothing but solidify the image of him being a villain in the making.
