- Adorkable: Linda.
- Near, especially in a phone conversation; even better is the part where Matt comments that he seems to be getting better on the phone, and he's genuinely flattered.
- Matt also qualifies. His first encounter with Misa in particular.
- Ascended Extra: Matt. In canon, he had about sixteen panels, and one scene in the anime. Here, he's part of the main cast, and plays a crucial role in the plot.
- Linda also; she gets a lot of character development in this story, going from a Wide-Eyed Idealist to a jaded and cynical Anti-Hero to a Spanner in the Works, all within the first twenty chapters.
- Badass Bookworm: All the Wammy's, L, Light.
- Big Bad: The Penguin.
- Drives Like Crazy: Matt.
- For Want Of A Nail: If L had come up with a backup plan and Rem hadn't killed him. Actually, it's more like "if L had faked his death at the exact moment that Rem and Misa had both written his name in their notebooks simultaneously.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Played for Laughs in the first chapter after Mello accidentally ends up giving Matt red hair. It Makes Sense in Context.
- Played much more seriously with Linda after she realizes what the sketches were for and what the consequences of giving them to the NPA could be.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Linda does this when she gives out the sketches of Mello and Near to the NPA.
- Original Character: Minori and Jason. Neither of them live.
- Sickening "Crunch!": Poor Linda...
