The Awkwardverse is a group of stories written by Secret Fan 14 about a group of college students (a witch, a cyborg, and a guy with a hockey stick). They do magic, take down nearby supervillains, and attempt to finish their homework on time.
The teens in question are:
- Lacie Flynn: A transfer from jolly old England. Lacie seems to think of her life as a sappy YA novel or tween drama, where she has the power to drag people out of their problems with a rousing speech and a smile. Though she may mostly be trying to convince herself more than anyone else. She had been rebuilt to make people happy, after all. Also, her real name is Deborah.
- Rachel Shinde: As self-professed nerdy trash, Rachel spends most of her free time watching cartoons, reading fantasy novels, eating, and surfing the net. Look up anxiety and self-loathing in the dictionary and you'll see her face. She's also a witch, which doesn't help matters much.
- Tyler Leung: The Only Sane Man most of the time, Tyler has to balance out Rachel's emotional instability, Lacie's stubborn naivete, Joey's arrogance, Macie's vicious streak, Christine's temper, and the fact that he can't remember the other one's name. Mind you, he's not that above it all (he's got some annoying Insufferable Genius tendencies), but Tyler seems to be the most well-adjusted of the bunch.
Their common enemies and rivals for a good deal of the series:
- Joseph Boon: Your average overconfident jackass freshman and the son of the CEO to your average megalomaniac evil corporation.
- Christine Nolan: Joey's right hand girl, known for her athletic prowess and her temper. Thankfully immune to romantic nonsense as the group aroace.
- Zachary Delveccio: Childhood friends with Joey and Christine. Small, skinny, super smart, and super sarcastic. They've also got a massive crush on Joey that they've been hiding for years.
- Macie Weber: Christine's stepsister, and your garden-variety Beta Bitch, floundering a bit after her alpha abandoned her for college. Relishing being away from her mother.
Tropes featured in this series include:
- Academic Athlete: Tyler
- Apologises a Lot: Rachel. It gets really annoying.
- Beta Bitch: Macie.
- Big Eater: Rachel and Tyler.
- Bookworm: Rachel.
- Cowardly Lion: Rachel. At school or some such social situation, she's an awkward, panicky wallflower. But put her loved ones in danger and she'll send you flying.
- Cyborg: Lacie. She had to be rebuilt after an accident when she was eight. Her new metal parts can shift into various non-gun weapons.
- Deadpan Snarker: Zachary and Rachel.
- Dysfunction Junction: Tyler might be the only one of the cast who isn't more messed up than you're supposed to be at 18.
- Electronic Eyes: Lacie, after losing hers in the accident.
- Friendless Background:
- Rachel moved around a lot as a kid because of her father's job.
- Lacie's father kept her moving too. Well, how else would you hide a supposedly dead cyborg-child from the government?
- Nervous Wreck: Rachel, in most situations.
- Only Sane Man: Tyler.
- Stepford Smiler: Lacie.
- Shrinking Violet: Rachel.
- Shock and Awe: Joey's magic has a lightning motif.
- Socially Awkward Hero: Rachel.
- Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Macie, and to a less severe extent, Zachary.
- We Can Rebuild Him: Lacie, after a mysterious accident when she was eight.
- Weirdness Magnet: Lakeside University. It has a very good magics program, but that many people screwing up that many spells in one place does some crazy stuff.
- Write Who You Know: Rachel is basically the author as a witch, with all that entails.
