The Sonichu Reboot Project is an unpublished fanfic by GeneralGigan(817). It is a Fan Remake of the Web Comic Sonichu by Christine Weston Chandler.
Our story begins after Team Rainbow Rocket was defeated, as Giovanni wanders the multiverse in search of a new way to conquer it, eventually, he finds a universe filled with powerful creatures that actually are not Pokémon and multicolored emeralds with power over pure chaos. As Giovanni enters this new world he finds a certain Mad Scientist also recovering from a major defeat. Eventually, they reach an agreement, by combining Gerald Robotnik’s blueprints for Project Shadow with Pokémon DNA, they will rule the multiverse with an army of Pokémon-Mobian hybrids!
We then cut to the original timeline, the one where the ultimate weapon was never fired, where Hilda is about to begin her Pokémon adventure! That is, until she finds a certain electric hedgehog.....
This series provides examples of
- Adaptational Heroism: Unlike in the original, Sonichu isn’t an enforcer of a tyrannical government.
- Adaptational Nonsapience: Sonichu can only communicate in Pokémon Speak.
- Adaptation Personality Change: In Sonichu, the title character was essentially two letters away from being Sonic with electric powers rather than essentially having the brain of a Pokémon.
- Adaptation Species Change: In the Webcomic, electric hedgehogs were an entirely seperate race of Pokémon. Here, they’re just a type of Pokémon/Mobian hybrid.
- Adapted Out: Chris Chan, despite being The Protagonist in the original, has no direct counterpart in this series.
- Age Lift: While Hilda’s age was never specified in the source material, she’s in her early 20s here.
- Ascended Extra: Sonic and Eggman started out as important characters before the series shifted into a Life Embellished story, majorly losing prominence I’m the process, while here they remain major characters throughout the story.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: Giovanni, the leader of Team Rainbow Rocket teams up with Doctor Eggman, ruler of the Eggman Empire.
- Composite Character:
- Hilda, while a canon character, takes inspiration from Kel in the original comic while having Chris’s role as the main human protagonist.
- A canon villain will raise Sylvia in this series.
- Lone Wolf Boss: While thee main villains are the Eggman Empire and Team Rainbow Rocket, there is a subplot of Necrozma’s search for the Chaos Emeralds.
- Truer to the Text: Unlike Sonichu, this series explicitly crosses over Pokémon with Sonic the Hedgehog, with many canon characters from both franchises.
