Darth Wiki / PQ Is Ghosts Of Saltmarsh Campaign

Go To

One fateful day in the seaside town of Saltmarsh on the Azure Coast, five invitations are sent to people from different walks of life to a feast held by Gellan Primewater, the richest man in town. Once there, a prominent merchant named Anders Solmor takes them all aside to tell them why he brought them there: he needs their skills to investigate a series of disappearances near a house believed to house the spirit of a long-dead alchemist, and Solmor intends to reward them handsomely should they solve the case. Thus begins the first of a series of adventures for these five unlikely teammates.

Characters

The Main Party

    open/close all folders
Tropes applying to all or some of the party members
  • Childhood Friends: Avan and Hyde met some time when they were in their early teens, and they have been best friends ever since.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Hyde is of average height for a halfling at three feet tall, and she's tied with Quinn (a gnome) as the shortest party member; her best friend Avan is five feet and ten inches tall, making him both remarkably tall for an elf and the tallest party member overall.
     Hyde Roughshod (and Wallace)

Played by: furnacedoor

Race: Stout Halfling
Class: Fighter (Cavalier)

     Killian Scitt (and Davy J)

Played by: YaYaKuza

Race: Drow
Class: Wizard (School of Evocation)

  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to his sister's Cain, as she had him sold into slavery and had no intention of coming back for him until a century later.
  • Given Name Reveal: As it turns out, his real name is Cillian von Krakenburg, having been born to a prestigious drow family before being sold into slavery and changing his name to escape captivity.
  • Magic Staff: His deserves special mention because it's actually a repurposed wooden flagpole, flag still attached, of course. It's nothing short of a miracle that it hasn't caught ablaze yet, considering his love of fire spells.
     Kite in the Wind

Played by: UndyingPhoenix

Race: Tabaxi
Class: Rogue (Scout)

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Oh Gods yes. He's very prone to wandering off and getting into trouble, hence why he's often called "The Living Embodiment of ADHD" out of universe.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: To name just one of his antics, he had a habit of nabbing his foes' undergarments for a while until the DM just outright started vetoing it.
  • Hidden Depths: He's remarkably good at riddles, as his encounter with the Androsphinx in the Feywild goes to show.
  • Team Chef: He's managed to somehow turn both a giant snake and some bloodhawks into palatable meals for the party. Not surprising given he lives off of the land and that he spent a large portion of his life living in the Hool Marshes, which are much more dangerous than the forests around Saltmarsh.
     Quinn Quain (and Cranberry)

Played by: Bored_Man

Race: Rock Gnome
Class: Warlock (Archfey Patron, Pact of the Chain)
     Avan Brinehanded

Played by: Akkun_K

Race: Sea Elf
Class: Bard (College of Valor)

  • Curtains Match the Windows: Has naturally blue hair with eyes to match.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: He was given the nickname "Fishcake" when he was attending Bard College, and it has somehow kept following him ever since, much to his consternation.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Has long, flowing blue hair, fine facial features, and a whopping 17 CHA to go with them.
  • Mysterious Waif: Parodied. On first glance, Avan fits the bill of the archetype quite well in his demeanor (does not speak often save for when warning the rest of the party about incoming danger), backstory (was found washed up on the shores of Saltmarsh as an infant after his people's homeland was besieged by sahuagin), and role in combat (acts as the main support role in combat by providing his teammates buffs and healing). However, rather than a maiden or a child, Avan is an adult man, albeit still considered quite young by elf standards and very much In Touch with His Feminine Side. On top of that, Avan is a Nervous Wreck whose quietness is due to being socially awkward whenever he's not performing and his ability to detect danger is due to anxious hypervigilance rather than any sort of oracular gift.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Noted to have a bit of social anxiety on top of his general anxiety despite being a bard with a high Charisma stat, which is explained as him having "pretty privilege" to make up for it.

Allies, Friends, and Family

    Traxal
A topaz dragon the party met during their travels who they helped close off a portal to the Plane of Water that was flooding her lair.
  • Not So Above It All: Has an air of dignity expected of an ancient dragon upon first meeting, but is still willing to laugh along with the party when Killian slips on Hyde's ball bearings. In addition, her very first line (which the party didn't understand since none of them speak Draconic) turns out to translate into, "Die, whirlpool!"
    Oceanus
A sea elf that that party saved from capture on the Sea Ghost pirate ship,
  • Ambiguously Related: To Avan. Granted, he's the only other sea elf that Avan has met, but the DM notes that they do somewhat resemble each other.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Has grown especially fond of ham after being freed from imprisonment by the party and exploring what the surface world has to offer.
