Darth Wiki / Our Wizard

Go To

Our Wizard is an unproduced screenplay. Writer / director Samuel T Weston had intended to make this his second feature film, but between cannibalizing superficial story elements for Gleahan and the Knaves of Industry and certain thematic elements being tackled by Black Panther (2018), the project was ultimately scrapped.

Tropes in this Unpublished Work include:

  • Abandoned Warehouse: It's here where Aleksanteri Maki hid his portal machine.
  • The Chosen One / The Chosen Zero: One recurring theme of the script is the question of which trope Alex fits more.
  • Clarke's Third Law: Alex's "wizard" status hinges on this distinction.
  • Duel to the Death: Arvo challenges the Red Wizard to one of these over the fate of the kingdom.
  • Evil Chancellor: Netso, the chief alchemist, very quickly establishes himself as the slimy back-stabbing traitor.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Alex may not be a wizard, but Velhomaa doesn't seem to care.
Laina: I’ve seen your projects. They’re really good! Half a degree still counts for something, right?
  • Ghibli Hills: The film will be directed in northeastern Minnesota, which is notorious for its vast, largely-untouched woods and lakes.
  • The Good Kingdom: Velhomaa.
  • He's Back!: After a sufficient amount of moping, Alex uncovers the gear of the Blue Wizard before him and gains the confidence to go back and challenge the Red Wizard.
  • Low Fantasy: There's no actual magic in the setting, the tone is a lot more melodramatic and comedic than a High or Heroic Fantasy, and the morals are less clear-cut than other fantasy stories.
  • Magical Land: Velhomaa exists in a downplayed Low Fantasy version of this.
  • Never Recycle a Building: Seen twice. Once with the Abandoned Warehouse in Duluth, and again with the overgrown shack in the woods outside Velhomaa.
  • Pop-Up Texting: This is implied in the screenwriting, and intended for the final product.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Tuuli fills this role, taking charge when both Alex and King Arvo prove to be let-downs.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Tuuli gives one to Alex at the start of the third act.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: King Arvo and Princess Tuuli both spend the entire movie doing everything they can to keep the Red Wizard out of their kingdom.
  • The Siege: Two thirds of this film feature the looming threat of the Red Wizard's siege, followed by the siege itself.
  • Soul-Sucking Retail Job: Alex works one of these at the beginning of the movie. Laina keeps working there the whole way through.
  • Summon Everyman Hero: Arvo doesn't intend it, but that's what he gets when he summons the Blue Wizard and gets Alex instead.
  • Throwing Down the Gauntlet: Arvo challenges the Red Wizard to a Duel to the Death to settle the issue of who controls Velhomaa.
  • Trapped in Another World: Half the plot is about the fact that Alex is trapped in Velhomaa's world and his search for a way back to our world.
  • Tomboy Princess: Tuuli is often seen in the same gear as a common fighter, and rarely any kind of dress.
