It's AD&D in all its glory. Several strangers have been recruited from across the Forgotten Realms by the mysterious sage, Amarion Blackskale. Their mission? Retrieve the horde of the fallen dragon Pyronicus Smaug and return a few choice trinkets to the Sage. For their trouble, Blackskale will allow them to split the rest of the horde and forgive each of them an individual debt. Of course, nothing is as easy as it sounds....
Old School Gaming contains examples of:
- Character Alignment: Being a Dungeonsand Dragons game this comes into play.
- Cosmic Plaything: Zigzagged. Some of it may be bad luck, but as one character learned, do not spit in the metaphorical eye of the Orc god. Especially if you're an elf.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Against a dragon! It helps that the party had Des, a priest of the goddess of Luck, Tymora.
- Dropped a Bridge on Him: A few characters were killed accidentally when the Dwarven priest Ovor blew a mystical horn that caused mass panic.
- Fantasy Pantheon: Several, in fact, with each major continent having their own gods and goddesses who hold power.
- From Bad to Worse: The party has been beset by all manner of misfortune mostly due to their desire to help the helpless. The latest has found them magically transported away from most of their gear to a completely different continent.
- High Fantasy: The Forgotten Realms campaign.
- My Name Is Inigo Montoya: Averted on most occasions. The party is usually ambushed. Played straight with the green dragon.
- Our Dwarves Are Different
- Our Elves Are Different
- Our Orcs Are Different
- Random Encounters
- Religion is Magic: Priests and clerics gain their powers through faith and prayer.
- The Quest: Collect the horde of the slain dragon Pyronicus Smaug. What Could Possibly Go Wrong??
- Vancian Magic: Mages must memorize and study spells daily.
- Work Offthe Debt: Invoked. This is how Amarion Blackskale brings them together and keeps them in line.

Augustus
- The Big Guy: Half-orc, half elf, Augustus is definitely the most powerful member of the party, capable of taking a sniper's arrow to the chest without slowing down.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Bred and raised by Drow slavers just because they could.
- Fantastic Racism: He's half-orc, half-elf, the product of two races who've hated each other since creation. Orcs are typically evil.
- Internalized Categorism: Seems to have shades of this with his conflicting natures as an Orlf.
- Token Heroic Orc: Type C
Caric
- Oh, My Gods!: Likes to call upon the goddess of luck, Tymora.
- Only Sane Man: Caric is definitely shaping up to be this to the party.
- Sex As Riteof Passage: Assisted the young Satyr Una in attaining womanhood.
Lady Aramathea
- Byronic Heroine: She WILL survive this journey and save her family's barony.
- Blue Blood
- Church Going Villain: Is very devoted to the goddess of magic, Mystra. She even sacrifices a spell to her in honor daily. Mystra is a notably good deity.
- Defrostingthe Ice Queen: Invoked by Aramathea to get the party to trust her.
- Even Evil Has Family: Played with. Her biological parents were killed before she got the chance to meet them. Her adoptive father has only been dead for a few years now, and his wife died in child birth shortly before she was adopted. She only has her adoptive brother Claude whom she cares for deeply.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Her servants and subjects are hers to protect and take care of. She treats them very well, even the ones under her mystical control.
- False Friend: Aramathea's way of dealing with this party of do-gooders.
- Femme Fatale: One of the many ways Aramathea acts as a Manipulative Bitch.
- Ice Queen: At least among those not of her social station. Among other nobles it's very clear she is quite charming.
- Ladyof Black Magic
- Manipulative Bitch: That is certainly Lady Aramathea's shtick.
- Mind Control: As an Enchantress, a lot of her spells do this.
- Motivational Lie: She does this to Augustus to get him to take the lead of the party, being the most battle-hardened of them.
- Opportunistic Bitch
- Pragmatic Villainy: The main reason Lady Aramathea hasn't had Timo or Ovor killed in their sleep.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: Lady Aramathea plans to use her share of the dragon's horde to pay off Uberdale's debts and keep the barony from bankruptcy.
- Summon Magic: Of the Western variety.
- The Minion Master: As an Enchantress/Conjurer dual specialist, she is rarely without them.
- Token Evil Teammate
- Villainous Lineage: Her biological parents were Thayan Red Wizards on a secret mission. Aramathea inherited their magic and their penchant for evil.
Ovor
- Deadpan Snarker
- Genre Savvy: Unfortunately he usually keeps it to himself.
- Healing Hands
- Holy Hand Grenade: Moreso Hammers.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: You probably shouldn't use a mystical horn that causes non-dwarves to flee in terror when surrounded and outnumbered by enemies. Or when you're being stalked by a hyper-competent assassin hellbent on getting revenge for her dead comrades.
- Status Buff
- Warrior Monk: Serves the Dwarven god Dumathion.
Timo
- Action Pet: Damian.
- [[Angst Angst]]: The poor Tallfellow has his share of it due to several actions that didn't turn out the way her meant.
- Breakthe Cutie: Definitely seems like this quest is taking a toll on his idealism.
- Inthe Blood: His uncle also has psionic powers.
- Friend To All Animals: As a Beastmaster.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: He saved the mind-controlled Lady Aramathea from being taken advantage of by a well-meaning satyr by filling her mind with rage, but didn't realize her man-servant was under her mental compulsion. The man-servant killed the satyr at Armathea's anguished command before anyone knew what was happening. His confession to the confused mage only made an enemy of her and made he party weary of him.
- Psychic Powers: Timo's a psionicist.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Aramathea did this to Timo after finding out he used his powers to control her mind, leading to the death of an innocent satyr. In his defense, he probably kept her from being taken of advantage of.
Vilyandir
- Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted. Vil is an elf, who are naturally more beautiful as a race, but the side of his face has been horribly scarred.
- Magic Knight: One of the illustrious Bladesingers, an Elven sect of magic wielding warriors.
- The Stoic
