A television series set in the same basic continuity as the Cthulhu Mythos of H. P. Lovecraft.
The story centers around four high school students: Suzie, a psychic, Derek, a jock, Martha, a fairly timid girl, and Richie, the resident nerd. Together, they form a group called SESTO (Special Elimination of Supernatural Threats Organization) and set out to protect humanity (or at least their hometown) from destruction.
Of course, they constantly have to battle countless monsters, and a strange, masked man known only as Jester.
This (fictional) show provides examples of:
- A God Am I - Trevor, the Big Bad of Season 3, and Abraham, Season 3's Disc-One Final Boss. The difference is that Trevor has a legitimate claim to this, whereas Abraham is simply insane.
- Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence - Trevor's ultimate goal is shed his humanity
- Big Bad - Ithaqua (a Great Old One trapped in another world) in Season 1, Palopniclus (a genocidal Yithian) from Season 2, and Trevor (a half-human son of Shub-Niggurath) from Season 3
- Jester is, of course, the Big Bad of the whole series, and responsible for every other Big Bad (usually by playing the role of The Dragon). Of course, his should come as no surprise, since anyone familiar with the Cthulhu Mythos will immediately recognize him as Nyarlathotep
- Broad Strokes - the series accepts most (but not all) of Lovecraft's work as canon, but picks and chooses from other Chtulhu Mythos writers (the most obvious being August Derleth. His Elder Gods vs Outer Gods cosmology is accepted, but the good vs evil aspects, as well as the elemental aspects, are quietly ignored)
- Fish People - the Deep Ones
- The End of the World as We Know It - Palopniclus's plan in Season 2 is to wipe humanity from the face of the earth, as he believes that humans will sow the seeds of the Yithian's destruction
- Psychic Powers - Suzie has clairovoyance
- Shapeshifter - a Monster of the Week in Season 1 is able to morph into any creature that it's eaten
- The Smart Guy - Richie, the only SESTO member who initially knows anything about the monsters SESTO is fighting
- Unseen Evil - Ithaqua in Season 1 is never actually shown
- Weaksauce Weakness - the Hounds of Tindalos are completely unable to enter circular areas
