Centuries ago, when the world was young
A great beast arrived from the heavens
Bringing nothing but death.
Lacrima is an indie Role-Playing Game. While it's still very much a WIP, a lot of character and story progress has been made, and is yet ongoing.

The story is set in the world of Telvyri, where centuries prior, a horrific calamity was averted by the Elder Witches, ten powerful elemental spellcasters. Following this event, children all across the world were born with elemental affinities and sent to learn under the Witches. These would become the witch clans, comprised of both descendants of the Witches' original students and those who have just awakened to an affinity.

This game contains examples of:

  • Ancestral Weapon: Raemon's sword Aevar originally belonged to his ancestor, and has been passed down through his family for generations. Deconstructed in that after all these years, it's starting to show its age—it's his weakest weapon.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Several supporting characters are queer, as is the entire Player Party: Iraias is bisexual (and can be made non-binary), Raemon is a gay trans man, Narivi is biromantic asexual, Seldia is a lesbian, Leurene is pansexual with a preference for men, and Veliu is aroace and non-binary.
  • Character Customization: Iraias's name, appearance, gender, and clan are chosen by the player.
  • Color-Coded Elements: All ten elements have an associated color, and when a witch awakens to their affinity, a lock of their hair turns that color. In order: Fire is red, Water is blue, Earth is yellow, Air is green, Thunder is purple, Ice is cyan, Plant is pink, Metal is silver, Light is white, and Darkness is black.
  • Elemental Powers: Ten of them, each associated with a clan:
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: All six party members fit to some extent.
    • Raemon and Narivi are the Fighters. Raemon is a Mighty Glacier and the primary source of physical damage, while Narivi is a Stone Wall and the party tank.
    • Iraias and Seldia are the Mages. Iraias will always be a Glass Cannon and the magic damage dealer regardless of clan, while Seldia is the White Mage Support Party Member.
    • Leurene and Veliu are the Thieves. Leurene is a Fragile Speedster (and in fact has the ability to steal items) while Veliu is slightly more unique, being the sole character able to cast Non-Elemental spells (outside of Seldia's healing).
  • Five-Token Band: Albeit a fantasy version. Each party member hails from one of the five continents: Raemon from Windveld, Narivi from Tanluan, Seldia from Azora, Leurene from Nelmor, and Veliu from Ramaros (and is also one of the Wyrmkin). Iraias is from wherever their clan is, which can be any of the five.
  • Height Angst: Raemon's height topped out at five feet, which he is extremely bitter about.
  • Heroic Mime: Iraias is largely nonverbal to the point older members of their clan originally feared they were mute. They can speak, they just usually prefer not to.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: The Big Bad, Monarch, always wears a smooth white mask that's featureless outside of pitch-black eyes.
  • Meaningful Rename: Raemon's name comes from the Folk Hero Raemira, a Sweet Polly Oliver who went by Raemon while pretending to be male. As a trans man, he related heavily to the story; as such, after running away from home and becoming a sellsword, he took the name and started living as a man.
  • Non-Heteronormative Society: Mostly. Telvyri is largely free of prejudice due to the impact of the clans and the Elder Witches, but bigoted outliers do exist (such as the rigidly patriarchal Rivi).
  • Official Couple: A few.
    • Narivi at the start of the game is in a polyamorous triad with Pax and Toromi.
    • Raemon and Leurene get quite a bit of Ship Tease, eventually to the point where Everyone Can See It. By the end of the game, they're in a relationship.
    • Seldia doesn't quite get a romance (due to being too focused on her duties and responsibilities) but she does develop a crush on Arkeia. This one ends on a Maybe Ever After note.
  • The player character Iraias has two possible partners to pursue: Maescia, a young noblewoman of Shardon's court, or Ayvin, a sailor from the docks of Rosello.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: They are all descended from the First Dragons, the ten children of the primordial deity Ka'ath. While true dragons are rarely seen in the modern day, the Wyrmkin tribes of Ramaros claim descent from them.
  • Token Non-Human: Veliu is the only party member to be Wyrmkin.
