Ghost Forest Game is a work-in-progress by Zazozaliad, currently being developed in RPG Maker VX Ace. It's intended to be an exploration game with light RPG elements.
You play as a clueless newcomer to the eponymous forest, and who 'you' are develops over time. This afterlife is anything but a calm one - and definitely isn't safe. But when you're already dead, what could possibly happen to make things worse?
Ghost Forest Game includes examples of:
- Our Ghosts Are Different: In the forest, if it talks, it's a person. Or least once was.
- Ghost Amnesia: Everyone who comes to the forest starts out missing quite a few memories, but with some time, most of it trickles back.
- Ghost Memory: The protagonist can find and experience 'Pulse Echoes', powerful imprints of experiences left behind by other characters. You can even find some of your own.
- Plot Coupon That Does Something: The seed the player carries. Deciding what to do with it is a major part of the game.

The Unanchored
Ghosts who possess a living seed.
The Protagonist
- Amnesiac Hero: Though you can get better, sort of.
The Former Protagonist
The cumulative, leftover echoes of your previous player characters. Depending on your past actions, may be very dangerous indeed.- New Game Plus: only appears on your second playthrough and beyond.
The Anchored
Ghosts who have a counterpart tree somewhere within the forest.
Hannah
A former Unanchored.- All Just a Dream: Hannah virulently believes the forest is this. It isn't.
- Red Right Hand: Hannah's right hand is charred black.
- Slasher Smile: While Hannah is usually The Stoic, she ends up wearing one of these rather often.
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Her feelings toward Wes. If the player tries to get rid of him on their own, she'll interfere.
Wes
- Eye Scream: If you absolutely persist in learning about his Dark and Troubled Past, Wes ends up a walking example of this after The Reveal - his sprites and portraits are all replaced by different versions with Glowing Eyelights of Undeath in empty eyesockets, with plenty of Tears of Blood to go around.
- Face Framed in Shadow: Wes wears a hoodie with the hood up for most of his screentime. He comments that it makes him look 'more like a proper ghost'.
- Trauma Button: He's got a few. Wes often worries that he's just made of these, and that there's little else left to him.
- They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason: Says this verbatim if the player gets pushy about knowing the gorey details of how he died.
- The Reveal Prompts Romance: You can try this on him. Though you'll be rejected. As much as he might have liked you beforehand, going out of your away to dig up information he practically begs you to stay away from is a deal-breaker.
Morris
- The Unfought: No matter what you do, there's no way to provoke him into one.
The Secret-Seller
A ghost who has made it his goal in unlife to pass around sensitive information about other ghosts, whether they like it or not. The Bloomed
Ghosts whose tree has been totally destroyed, and as a result, have lost all sense of who they once were.
The Root
The King of the Bloomed.- The Good King: The Root cares deeply for every Bloomed in the forest, whether they personally recognize him as king or not.
- Lady and Knight: The Lady to Wildflower's Knight.
- Rank Scales with Asskicking: Though unable to leave his court, the Root can mop the floor with just about anyone. And if you visit him after harming any of his subjects by your own hand, you'll get to see it for yourself.
- Unwanted Assistance: While the Root loves Wildflower very much, when he finds out what he's been up to behind his back, he is a bit unenthused.
Wildflower
The Root's self-sworn knight.- Animated Armor: Wildflower's body is a rather foreboding suit of armor, filled with wildflowers.
- Bodyguard Crush: Reciprocated!
- Flowers of Romance: The story goes that when Wildflower confessed his love to the Root for the first time, he offered him his helmet - filled to the brim with red carnations.
- Lady and Knight: The Knight to the Root's Lady.
The Rose Ghost
- Gentle Giant: The Rose Ghost largely keeps to herself, but will chat pleasantly with her visitors.
- Heroic BSoD: Whether it be by the player's hand or Hannah's, the Rose Ghost has one after looking at her face in the handmirror, and as a result transforms into a Burned. The charred remains of her massive body forms the Fairylight Corridor.
Spriggan.
The Burned
Ghosts whose tree has been destroyed - but left something lingering behind, in the form of Embers. As a result, the Burned still possess some vestiges of who they were...
Brette
The Molten Howl
A terrifying creature, said to have formed from the restless hatred of countless Burned ghosts. The Fog Wraiths
Bizarre apparitions that appear wherever the green fog grows thick. They are the rotten spirits of former Unanchored ghosts, whose seeds weren't planted in time to be saved.
