Feral Hunter is a Lonely Wolf Treat Fan Fic written by IAmHoussem17 on FanFiction.Net and Archive of Our Own.
The fic follows the cast in a story heavily inspired by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba where the world is hunted by savage animals in their beastly form and they must fight them off to survive.
The fic provides examples of the following tropes:
- Adaptational Badass: Because of the Crapsack World established, most characters are given fighting abilities to be able to fend off the beasts attacking them:
- Treat is The Ace who's capable of Moon Breathing, a breathing style no one else could master.
- Mochi wields Thunder Breathing, though her full capacities are held back by her lowly self-esteem.
- Adaptational Heroism: The Wormwood mice set up special spots for fighters to train and rest, whereas in the original, they eat travelers.
- Adaptational Seriousness: Canon Trick is a Pollyanna who's always smiling. Here, they're a stoic, impassive person, though no less kind.
- Adaptational Villainy: Quite a few characters:
- Pretty much all of Moxie's friends and her mom, as they're the primary antagonists.
- Eleni canonically is just an eccentric Nightmare Fetishist with a few loose morals. In this, she outright wants the extermination of people who ostracized her.
- Juju starts off as the typical jerkass she is in the games, then slowly goes off to the dark side and becomes a fully fledged villainess.
- May also ends up succumbing to evil and even kills her own companion Annie in a battle.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Treat is more of a standoffish person and rough mannered towards people around her because she grew jaded with her talents.
- Adaptation Origin Connection: Drop and Nougat are acquainted unlike the source material.
- Big Bad: The one behind the ferals is Moxie's mom, her motive is getting revenge for the conspiracy that destroyed her reputation and hotels.
- Big Good:
- Mango has been working for years on finding a cure for the ferals, making him this.
- Another example would be Drop and Nougat, who are working in correlation with other mice to provide resting spots and training grounds.
- Thyme and Spice, along with Genoise, also count for being the witches responsible for crafting the swords specifically designed to kill ferals with their magic.
- Cowardly Lion: Mochi is easily scared at the thought of fighting ferals but when push comes to shove, she doesn't hesitate.
- Death by Adaptation:
- Trick is the Long-Dead Badass (much like Yoriichi in Demon Slayer) who passed on the Breathing Techniques.
- Turns out their master also died due to a feral attack, and his death is Trick's greatest failure.
- Named In The Adaptation: There are two examples done to follow the series' Edible Theme Naming:
- Moxie's mom is given the name Endive.
- Trick's master is given the name Higashi.
- The Stoic:
- Treat is depicted as The Quiet One still, but she's much less prone to emotional outbursts.
- Same thing with Trick. They're still kind, just much more closed off.
