After the Dawn is Star Wars Alternate Universe fanfic writen by Emperor Geode, yet to actually be writen. In it Qi’ra’s plan to trap Palpatine in the Fermata Cage success, leading to the Empire losing it’s leader earlier and number of events to play out differently.
This work contains exemples of:
- Absolute Xenophobe: Pius Dea, human centric cult that used to rule the Republic before Sith Wars. Acording to doctor Efeza they started the idea of human being defaul state of sentient being and commited atrocities upon entire species that even Sith considered sick.
- Enric Pryde, to the point that it is speculated in-universe that he is Pius Dea believer. First thing he does as he weasels his way as defacto ruler of Moff Jerjerod’s faction is lead his army into slaugthering and skining inhabitants of Endor.
- Adaptational Badass. Downplayed with the Empire. While still fractured and weakend from the loss of their leader, they are still generally able to handle themselves better than in Canon, where they fell under just one year.
- Adaptational Jerkass: In Legends Prince Xizor was piece of work, but he cared for his family and wanted to avenge their deaths. Here, Xizor himself killed almost his whole family to gain the power.
- Adaptational Personality Change: Learning more about Anakin’s fall and interaction with some of Jedi make Luke less blind to their faults and more cinical about them, allought he still believes he and other can build a better Order.
- Adaptational Sympathy: in Legends, Yavetha were species of genocidal maniac who wiped out all other races in their star Cluster after aguiring space ships. Here they used to be harsh civilisation which eventually achieved peace and unity and was getting ready to venture into space. Only for the Empire to show up, wipe out 85% procent of life on their planet and try to deplete it of resources before taking surviving Yavatha as slaves.
- Ambiguously Human:
- “Near-Human” species as a whole. While some acedemics believe them to be human lost colonies who evolved over countless milleniums, Professor Efeza points out that earliest records of the theory are from rule of the Pius Dea, who would have all motive to claim at least some of unfluentall non-humans as a Human Subspecies.
- Acording to Lor San Tekka, true species of Darth Revan was lost to time except that they were likely humanoid.
- Anti-Villain:
- Downplayed with Qi’ra. On one hand her with for better and free galaxy is geniune, on ther hand she still plans to rise up as one of most powerfull people in the new order.
- Ajax Sigma’s goal of droid freedom is completelly geniune and noble, however his method include bloody attack an the civilians, and if neccesary, subjegation of the organics.
- Savan’s main goal is getting revenge on her uncle who killed rest of her family and dismantle his criminal empire, she also has clear Standards and people she cares about. Still he methods include infiltrating the Black Sun and climbing the ranks to destroy it from within, with some rather unsavory methods.
- Big Bad Ensemble: With Palpatine out of commission number of smaler threats rise to pick up a steam. most notable players are:
- Lady Qi’ra of the Crimson Dawn, person responsible for the situation in the first place who has her agent in all notable organizations of the galaxy.
- Prince Xizor, leader of the Black Sun and one of most powerfull criminals in the galaxy.
- Admiral Gallius Rax, who plans to cary out the Contigency plan and build the New Empire with him in charge. He and Xizor eventually team up
- Ajax Sigma, the ancient droid revolutionry who is brought back by his followers and plans to use chaos for droid emencipation.
- Big Bad Wannabe:
- Mas Amedda tries to wrestle a control of the Empire with Palpatine seemingly gone, however rising crime lords and warlords decipate Empire, while Imperial nobles quickly reduce him to the Puppet King of Imperial council.
- Moff Jerjerrod schemes to use second Death Star to take control of the Empire, however he is manipulated by his second in command Enric Pryde and used by Rax as the part of his plans.
- Fizen Gor attempts to weasel his way into Akax’s inner circle, presenting him his singnal as the way for him to bring droid revolution, while scheming to betray him. Too bad he didn’t count on his experiments disgusting Ajax.
- Lord Hercig attempts to organise a pirate aliance compromised of bunch of small time criminals, planning to lead them to such plunder that “Nihil would look like a passing breeze in galactic history”. Only reason he isn’t curmbstomped by bigger faction is because heroes are more busy with bigger threats, while villains see him as an useful pawn.
- Greater-Scope Villain: Thought Palpatine is imprisoned, most of danger in story comes from people who, directly or indirectly, have risen because of his actions.
- Cast Full of Gay: Downplayed at first but eventually played straight. Luke and Merrin are openly bisexual, Doctor Aphra is lesbian, Kho Phon Farrus is nonbinary and pansexual, Savan’s sexuality is open but she is relathioship with another woman…
- Hate Sink:
- Jorus C’baoth and High Priess Ariz both peices of work. Jorus is condecending prick who refuses to admit that there was anything wrong with Jedi philosophy, rules cult of personality that would make Palpatine envious and is completelly Okay with letting galaxy fall in Chaos and death. Ariz fully supports Jorus’s rule, acting as his personall torture technician, while using cult to enable Xizor’s galaxy wide traficking network, specificaly dealing in kids. And when push comes to shows he betrays his whole community to Rax’s forces.
- Commander Fezil is smug and racis Imperial officer and Dirty Coward who abadons her entire squadrons Bo be killed by Duloks and Ewoks after she decides to attack them while together because for glory and because she hates inhabitants of Endor that much.
- Moral Myopia:
- As lampshaded by Ajax, the Republic was critisised for by both Separatists and more cinical anti Imperial groups for using artifically breed slave army, yet neither Separatists, corporations which suplies them with weapons or anybody else gets same flac because they used droids exacly same way.
- More moral Imperials condemn rebels destroying Death Star and other extremistic actions. Yet they are guick to defend Empire and its actions, freguently exacly what Rebels did on much bigger scale and with less provokativno using The Needs of the Many and other rethorics. Xizor, in rare moment of self awarness, calls them out on this.Xizor: Republic is condemned for corruption and using the slave army, Jedi are condemned for essencially being brainwashing cult, Rebelion is condemned for destruction of death Star, Confederation is condemned for war crimes, Empire is condemned for so much. Yet when their critics are called out for simmiliar things they use most flimsy and cliche defenses. Face it, people only have problem with war crimes, corruption and slavery in its many forms when it is done by side they dissagree with.
- More Despicable Minion:
- Moff Jerjerrod is believer in the Empire who plans to use the Death Star to take control of the galaxy, but he is pragmatist who is much more keen on using Death star for intimidation rather than destruction. Enric Pride is xenophobic sociopath who spends his days destroying villagers on Endor and skining inhabitants.
- Jorus C’baoth represent everything wrong with Jedi order while lacking positive gualities, leading his community on Dalna as his personal cult where force sensitive children are taken by him and brutaly punished for even most minor “dark side” behavarior and being condescending prick who believes Jedi should abaddon the galaxy to the chaos before resurfacing to rule it. His right hand Ariz is in charge of punishments and day to day rule of the community, using Jorus’s network to be a big part of Xizor’s traficking bussines. He eventually betrays whole community to Rax and joins Xizor in providing children for the First Order
- Not So Omniscient After All: Played for Laughs. Yoda claims Luke is last of the Jedi, but by that point Luke already met Ashoka, Cal and Mill Alibeth. Yoda is actually happy since it means that maybe he is also wrong about his visions of Kylo Ren.
- Yoda: “Confuse wisdom with omniscience you must not, young Skywalker.”
- Villain Has a Point:
- Ajax is fully correct that droids are estecally slaves and that even “good organics” who treat their droids nice generally have little resistance to how others treat them. He is also correct when pointing out for all flak Republic and Jedi get for using the slave army nobody has problem with Separatists doing the same because they used droids.
- High Priest Ariz compares the way his cult is getting children for the Xizor’s traficking bussines (including the First Order) to Jedi way of the recruitment. When Ashoka point out that Jedi ask guardians for the premission, Ariz replies that most of their young recruits and “merchandise” are also given by their guardians to either protect them or just for the better life when children are to young to make choice for themselves. Everybody is forced to admit that Ariz has a point.
- We ARE Struggling Together: Group of Jedi survivors has pretty different views on how to proceed with rebuilding the Jedi Order, if they are even on board with the idea at all:
- Some, like Luke and Mill bellieve that they should drop no attachment and trained from the birth aspect, as well as focus on being peace keepers. Mill also dosen’t truly want to rejting the Order.
- ones like Ashoka and Oppo Rancisis, still traumatised from learning about Anakin’s fall, agrees with Jedi needing to distanc ethemselves from politics and fight, but also believes that they shoul become even stricter with the rules.
- Jedi like Quinlan Vos and Umeza believe they should just let the Jedi die.
- Jorus C’baoth balives they should be even stricter with the rules and be Guardians and teachers (read: rulers) to non force sensitives of the galaxy.
