William Thomas Harris III (born 11 April 1940) is an American writer, best known as the creator of Hannibal Lecter novels. He worked as a reporter before the publication of his first novel, Black Sunday which was only moderately successful but was made into a movie two years later. Little is known of Harris's personal life as he generally avoids publicity; an interview with the New York Times in 2019 to promote his latest novel was his first major one he'd done in 43 years.
