"Oh, children of late times. I have nothing new to tell you, only that, which is old and mostly forgotten."

Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlöf (1858-1940) was a famous Swedish author of the late 19th-early 20th century, debuting with The Saga Of Gosta Berling in 1891. She is perhaps most internationally famous for the children's book The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. In 1909, she was the first woman and the first Swede to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Her works are marked by a strong Christian ethic, use of Swedish folklore and centering around her native province of Värmland.
