Sadie Elizabeth Sink (born April 2002) is an American actress. She got her start on Broadway, in the plays Annie and The Audience, but became well-known following two horror roles for Netflix: Max Mayfield on Stranger Things and Ziggy Berman in the Fear Street trilogy.

In addition to acting, Sink is also a model. She is also a vegan, and was the celebrity narrator of the animal rights documentary Dominion.

Filmography:

Tropes about her works:

  • Ability over Appearance: A minor example. She was initially turned down for Max in Stranger Things, as they felt she was too old for the character (she was fourteen and Max is supposed to be thirteen). She however lobbied for a chance to test her chemistry alongside Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo, and won the part.
  • Dawson Casting:invoked
    • She was initially just one year older than Max on Stranger Things Season 2, but by Season 4, she was nineteen and the character only just entering high school.
    • Ziggy in Fear Street isn't said to be any age, except that she's in her last year as a camper. However, in 1666, Sadie also plays Constance Berman, who is referred to as a child and is meant to be too young to dance in the woods with the teenage characters.
    • In The Whale, she was twenty playing seventeen.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: A comparatively minor one - she has recently had her long red hair cut much shorter for O'Dessa.
  • Fiery Redhead: Sink has natural bright red hair and has played some emotional and fiery characters to match, including the titular character of Annie, Max in Stranger Things, Ziggy in Fear Street, and Ellie in The Whale.
  • Playing Against Type: In All Too Well: The Short Film, she plays an Author Avatar for Taylor Swift, as a naive young woman less tomboyish than Max or Ziggy.
  • Scream Queens: Starting to be described as one by critics, the AV Club using the term "burgeoning scream queen" in their review of Season 4 Volume 1 of Stranger Things, where she almost becomes a victim of Vecna in an episode where she convincingly plays abject terror.
    • Also, one of the "I don't like horror movies" variety; she managed to Jump Scare herself with the scene where Max jumps out on the Party in a Mike Myers costume in Stranger Things 2.
  • Throw It In!: The argument in the kitchen in All Too Well was improvised between her and Dylan O'Brien. It was intended just to be part of a montage, but Taylor Swift was impressed by their work and had the song briefly stop to incorporate the scene.
  • Timeshifted Actor: She plays Young Sarah Snook in The Glass Castle, Young Gillian Jacobs in Fear Street, and Young Taylor Swift in All Too Well: The Short Film.
  • Typecasting: In both Stranger Things and Fear Street, she's a tomboyish teen who's Not Like Other Girls, revealed to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, and even gets a Deadly Nosebleed to signal that her death is approaching. Both times she's saved from certain death. Especially amusing, since Ross Duffer and Leigh Janiak are married.
  • Underage Casting: For the All Too Well video, she was actually playing older than her age. While it's not said how old she's meant to be at the start of the relationship, she turns twenty-one during the song, and Sadie was nineteen.
