Peter Geoffrey Francis Jones, (12 June 1920 — 10 April 2000), was a British actor and screenwriter.

In The '50s, he starred in the largely improvised radio comedy In All Directions with Peter Ustinov and on TV, he played Mr. Fenner in The Rag Trade both in the original '60s run and '70s Revival, while later starring in Beggar My Neighbour, Mr Digby Darling, From a Bird's Eye View, Mr Big, and I Thought You'd Gone.

He made occasional appearances in British films during this period also, with notable roles coming as Maxy Naus in 1975's Confessions of a Pop Performer and as The Brigadier in 1976's Carry On England. In the latter, Jones filled in for an absent Kenneth Williams, who he appeared with on the Panel Game Just a Minute many times.

He voiced The Book in the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1978). The creators had been looking for someone with a "Peter Jones-y sort of voice" before ending up with Jones himself, who reprised the role for the 1981 TV series.

He died of natural causes at the age of 79.
