In an age where civility and charm are often left by the wayside, Miss Manners reminds us that etiquette and grace never go out of style.

Judith Martin, better known as Miss Manners, is considered the ultimate authority on etiquette and the modern-day Emily Post. Known for her practical advice and dry wit, Miss Manners is an advocate for politeness, modesty and thank-you notes. She has published a number of books on the subject such as Miss Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior, and answers reader-submitted questions and requests for advice in a syndicated newspaper column.note

Known for:

  • Ask a Stupid Question...: An occasional hazard of taking questions submitted by the public. Miss Manners calls these out in her usual fashion, as in one example in which she was asked the proper way to eat potato chips:
"Gentle Reader: With a knife and fork. A fruit knife and an oyster fork, to be specific. Good heavens, what is the world coming to? Miss Manners does not mind explaining the finer points of gracious living, but she feels that anyone without the sense to pick up a potato chip and stuff it in their face should probably not be running around loose on the streets."
  • Brutal Honesty: In particular, when answering requests for advice she never hesitates to call the requester out if their motives have less to do with a genuine concern for observing proper etiquette and more to do with greed or the desire to feel superior to others.
  • Cool Old Lady
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Fee Fi Faux Pas: Her goal is not to prevent these, but to teach people how to handle them with grace.
  • Gentlewoman Snarker
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Miss Manners is not above making suggestions on how best to put someone who's behaving badly in their place without resorting to overt rudeness. She has at times pointed out that people who assume that etiquette exists to make people feel comfortable are gravely mistaken.
