Michael George Murphy (born May 5, 1938 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actor best known for his roles in such films as An Unmarried Woman, Manhattan, The Year of Living Dangerously, and Magnolia, as well as his frequent collaborations with Robert Altman.

He was married to actress Wendy Crewson and they have two children.

He's also the reason why the country–Western singer-songwriter Michael Martin Murphey uses his full name. The musician released his biggest mainstream hit, "Wildfire", as Michael Murphey, but started an acting career on the side in the early 1980s. Upon learning of the existence of this actor, he switched to using his full name for all of his artistic endeavors.
