Tropes associated with his roles:
- He Also Did: Since 2005, he has narrated the audiobooks of John Grisham's novels.
- Star-Derailing Role: He gained a lot of positive attention for his role in The Warriors, but unfortunately his next starring role was Sonny in Xanadu (1980), which was a box office disappointment and got a poor critical reception. His film acting career never recovered and with the exception of starring in Houston Knights, he was largely relegated to B-movies, television films and guest appearances on TV shows. As Beck himself put it: "The Warriors opened a lot of doors in film for me, which Xanadu then closed."
- You Look Familiar: Over the years, he played three separate characters on Murder, She Wrote.
