Charlotte "Lotte" Reiniger (1899 – 1981) was a German director and animator. She was a pioneer of silhouette animation, and created a predecessor to the multiplane camera for her work. One of her best known works, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, is the oldest surviving animated feature-length film.

As a child, she was inspired by Chinese paper cutting and shadow play, which influenced her art style, along with her love of theatre. Over the course of her life, she created over 40 films, most of them shorts. She also illustrated the 1953 book King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table.
