Liza Soberano (born Hope Elizabeth Hanley Soberano on 4 January, 1998) is a Filipino-American actress. Soberano was born in Santa Clara, California but moved to the Philippines at a very young age. At 12, she started working as a print and commercial model. She later transitioned into acting, first starting out with smaller roles (for example, as a Romantic False Lead in the Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla starrer Got to Believe) before getting her big break as Agnes in Forevermore.
Soberano has come to be recognized as one of the Philippines' brightest young stars. Among other accolades, she has received the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award in 2020. However, she decided to pursue Hollywood in 2022, a career move that has generated (and continues to generate) plenty of heated debate among the Filipino masses. She has earned critical acclaim for her performance as Taffy Swallows in her Hollywood debut, Lisa Frankenstein (2024), and is slated to star alongside Brandon Perea in a live-action adaptation of Randy Ribay's 2019 novel Patron Saints Of Nothing.
Soberano is fluent in English, Tagalog, and her father's native language, Ilocano. She's a dual citizen of both the Philippines and the USA. Her father is a Pangasinense/Ilocano Filipino and her mother is white.
