Julie Taymor (born 1952) is an American theatre and film director.
Taymor's directorial work is characterized by offbeat sound, saturated colors and trippy visuals. She is also well-known for her usage of masks and puppetry in her stage work, having studied their usage consistently as a student and founding a mask/dance company while in Indonesia. This is most prominently on display in The Lion King (1997), a stage adaptation of the Disney movie of the same name.
