Tropes:
- Auteur License: Has a writing credit on all of the movies he's directed and usually produces as well. He did all three in addition to co-starring in his film debut.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: The villain in Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane is a thinly veiled riff on Cal Worthington, a used car dealership owner who was famous in Southern California in the 1980s and 1990s for his local television commercials.
- Production Posse: Ray Liotta and Frank Grillo have frequently collaborated with Carnahan, appearing in three of his films. He's also collaborated with the likes of Ridley Scott, Liam Neeson, Chris Pine, Patrick Wilson, Quinton Jackson, James Badge Dale and others.
