Jean Stapleton (born Jeanne Murray; January 19, 1923 – May 31, 2013) was an American character actress.
Her career spanned sixty years and numerous appearances across stage, film and television. She starred in Broadway musicals like Funny Girl, Damn Yankees and Bells Are Ringing and making guest appearances in various television anthology series and sitcoms like The Patty Duke Show, Dennis the Menace and My Three Sons. She even appeared in films like Klute and Cold Turkey. However, her most famous role was as Archie Bunker's kind, optimistic and ditzy wife Edith on the seminal '70s sitcom All in the Family, for which she won three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes.
