James Allen Whitmore Jr. (October 1, 1921 - February 6, 2009) was an American actor best known for The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Give Em Hell Harry (1975), and Battleground (1949).
He was married to Nancy Mygatt, Audra Lindley, and Noreen Nash and had four children, including James Whitmore Jr..
Whitmore died in 2009 at the age of 87 from lung cancer.
