Jacob Elordi (born 26th June, 1997, in Brisbane, Queensland) is an Australian actor. He's best known for his roles as Noah Flynn in The Kissing Booth trilogy, Nate Jacobs in drama series Euphoria, Elvis Presley in biopic Priscilla and Felix Catton in psychological thriller Saltburn. His first Hollywood acting role was an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, a year before his first major film roles in 2018's Swinging Safari and The Kissing Booth.

Filmography includes:

Tropes associated with his roles:

  • Creator Backlash: While acknowledging that The Kissing Booth films helped his career, Elordi hinted in a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter and more clearly stated in a 2023 interview with GQ that he didn't think much of them overall, referring to them as "ridiculous" and opining that Noah was underwritten in the first movie (to the point he felt that playing Nate in Euphoria was "almost like righting my wrongs a little bit" as it deconstructed many of Noah's less savoury traits); he also expressed concern over being typecast as a teen heartthrob because of the role, as it wasn't one he was interested in playing again. He did express gratitude that the series' popularity at least allowed him the opportunity to pursue other roles he was genuinely passionate about.
  • Dawson Casting:
    • Mostly avoided in The Kissing Booth films; Elordi was 19 playing a high school senior in the first film, then in his early 20s playing a first-and-second year college student in the sequels. He's actually younger than Joel Courtney, who played Noah's younger brother Lee.
    • He was 21 when he first played high schooler Nate Jacobs in Euphoria, which isn't surprising given the show's subject matter and graphic depictions of sex and drug use (which Nate partakes in).
    • In Saltburn, Felix is indicated to be around 18, while Elordi was 25 during filming.
  • Fake American: In most of his roles, he plays Americans rather than Australians, including playing Elvis, one of the most famous American musicians of all time.
  • Fake Brit: He plays a British aristocrat in Saltburn.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Due to Elordi being six feet five inches tall, he tends to tower over most of his fellow cast members, though this trope applies to The Kissing Booth, Euphoria and Priscilla, where the actresses playing his love interests - Joey King, Sydney Sweeney and Cailee Spaeny, respectively - look tiny next to him as they're over a foot shorter (King is 5'4, Sweeney is 5'3 and Spaeny is 5'1). Elordi has joked about perfecting the ability to lean while acting next to his co-stars and the tendency for him to be paired with short actresses:
"The trick is they just always cast me with girls who are five-foot-two. Everyone’s like, 'You’re so big!' Yeah, but they’re also not big, not even average-sized women. They’re quite small."
  • Money, Dear Boy: He admitted in a 2023 interview he mostly took the role of Noah in The Kissing Booth trilogy because he needed a job and wanted to break into American films and TV, and didn't think too highly of the story and script. He stated that he tried to avoid accepting too many roles for this reason afterwards, as he would much prefer to be involved in projects he finds genuinely interesting.
Elordi: That one's a trap as well. Because it can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas and you're dead inside. So it's a fine dance. My 'one for them,' I've done it.
  • Mr. Fanservice: In several of his roles, with many of his characters getting lots of Shirtless Scenes, a few sex scenes and having women flocking to him. His characters are often The Casanova too. That said, it's sometimes played more for Fan Disservice.
  • Romance on the Set: He and Joey King played love interests in The Kissing Booth and began dating in real life after filming the first movie. By the time filming began for the second and third movies, they'd broken up but remained amicable and professional on-set.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He's around 6'5, dark-haired and many of his roles draw attention to his attractiveness (though in some cases this overlaps with Beauty Is Bad).
  • Typecasting: He has a tendency to be cast as jerks of varying degrees, in particular Jerk Jocks and Frat Bros: Noah from The Kissing Booth evolves into a Jerk with a Heart of Gold (and barely has any jerk traits left by the final movie), Jake from The Mortuary Collection is a sleazy womaniser who engages in Contraception Deception, while Nate from Euphoria is straight-up sociopathic (with Elordi saying of Nate "He's an emotional terrorist, a narcissist, a sociopath, a freak. All those things."). His portrayal of Elvis in Priscilla isn't completely devoid of sympathetic traits, but it definitely highlights the man's flaws and especially his poor treatment of his wife.
  • Underage Casting: Elordi was 25 during the filming of Priscilla, the same age Elvis is at the start of the movie, but he still plays Elvis when the character gets much older, even well into his 30s (the film ends with Priscilla leaving Elvis for good and the couple separated when Elvis was 38, thirteen years older than Elordi was). Elvis was also a decade older than Priscilla, while Elordi is only a year older than Cailee Spaeny (though she passed for much younger).
  • What Could Have Been: He stated that he was asked to read for the role of Superman, but he declined due to finding it "too much" and "too dark for me".
