"I've been known as a dirty comic for years, but I could never have got away with some of the stuff in these scripts."

Jack Haig, born John Cecil Coppin, (5 January 1913 — 4 July 1989), was a British actor best known for playing Monsieur LeClerc in 'Allo 'Allo!.

Born to parents who were music hall actors, acting was in his blood. One of his first acting roles came in Hugh and I; Cyril Smith who had played Harold Wormold died during the series' run, so the role was recast with Haig, who eventually was given his own role, that of his brother-in-law, Cecil Wormold. Following this, Haig played Archie Gibbs in Crossroads and turned down the role of Lance Corporal Jones in Dad's Army.

Dad's Army's producer and co-writer didn't forget him, leading to his casting as the Master Forger (and terrible disguise artist) Monsieur Roger LeClerc in 'Allo 'Allo! for the first five series. In 1989, he became too ill to work, so Monsieur LeClerc was Put on a Bus at the start of Series 6, with René explaining that he switched places with his twin brother Ernest (played by Derek Royle) and returned to jail.

He died from stomach cancer at the age of 76.
