Tropes relating to Charlyne Yi's roles:
- Endearingly Dorky: With their quiet voice, large glasses, and old-fashioned haircut, the characters they play generally come across as nerdy, but cute nonetheless.
- Beware the Quiet Ones: As a corollary to the fact that they often play quiet, demure-seeming characters, their characters often are far more dangerous than they let on.
- The Quiet One: Rarely plays loud characters, generally along the lines of a Shrinking Violet. Subverted in This Is 40 when it is revealed that Jodi is the one stealing from the till at work to fund her meth use.
