Ben Aris, born Benjamin Patrick Aris, (16 March 1937 — 4 September 2003), was a British actor best known for being Typecast as lovable upper-class eccentrics. He was also the father of Jonathan Aris.
His first role on TV was on Jamie in 1971. After this, he appeared in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Doctor Who, Sam and the River, Crown Court, Wodehouse Playhouse, and Target.
In the early '80s, he played Mr. Spalding in three episodes of To the Manor Born. After a guest appearance in the fifth series of Hi-de-Hi! as Julian Dalrymple-Sykes, he joined the main cast in Series 8 after Barry Howard was sacked for drunken on-set misbehaviour.
He died at the age of 66.
