Adolfo Celi (27 July 1922 – 19 February 1986) was an Italian film actor and director from Messina, Sicily.
He appeared in nearly 100 films, generally specializing in villains. Although a prominent actor in Italian cinema and famed for many roles, he is probably best remembered internationally as SPECTRE operative Emilio Largo in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball, and perhaps also for his appearances as James Brooke in the 1976 TV show adaptation of Sandokan (which, interestingly enough, starred another Bond baddie in the main role, Kabir Bedi from Octopussy).
Celi later spoofed his Thunderball role in Operation Double 007 opposite Sean Connery's brother, Neil Connery.
Works he has appeared in include:
- Thunderball (1965) as Emilio Largo
- King of Hearts (1966) as Le Colonel Mac Bibenbrook
- Operation Double 007 (1967) as Mr. Thayer (Beta)
- The Bobo (1967) as Francisco Carbonell
- Grand Slam (1967) as Mark Milford
- Danger: Diabolik (1968) as Ralph Valmont
- Murders in the Rue Morgue (1971) as Inspector Vidocq
- My Friends (1975) as Professor Alfeo Sassaroli
- Sandokan (1976) as James Brooke
- Holocaust 2000 (1977) as Dr. Kerouac
- The Borgias (1981) as Rodrigo Borgia/Pope Alexander VI
