The Vigilant is a comic-book series created by Eric Alan Nelson and David McClusky, with Jeff Spokes taking over as artist starting in issue 2.

When scientist Isaac Kaplan opens up a portal to another world, he accidentally brings Earth to the attention of the Old Ones, terrible beings from another dimension who seek to un-create everything. In order to protect the world, his associate Mother Earth gathers a team, with Anathema, Wardance, Tigerfist, Werebeast, Hellfire Witch, and Kaplan's teenage niece Domino, in order to protect the Earth, and all realms of existence, from the ensuing threats.

The Vigilant contains examples of:

  • Ambiguously Jewish: Isaac Kaplan's name and the fact that he knows how to create a golem suggests that he has a Jewish background, though the series does not confirm or deny this.
  • The Big Guy: Massif the golem is enormous.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: In the first issue, Massif throws his large arms around Domino's head so that she doesn't see what Hellfire Witch is doing to distract the horny demon that Anathema unwittingly summoned.
  • Going Commando: Wardance's official costume includes a Plains style breastplate and a loincloth. It does not include any sort of underwear. Issue two introduces the Trinity, a trio of warrior nuns whose uniforms consist of a long loincoth-like garment that's tied around the chest, with no sign that they're wearing underwear underneath.
  • Golem: Prof. Kaplan created the golem Massif in order to protect his young niece Domino from anyone who might want to hurt her.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Elizabeth Sweeney is over 400 years old.
  • Variant Cover: Being a crowdfunded series, naturally there are a number of variant covers for each issue. Frequent contributing artists include Shikarii, Christian Zanier, Lucio Parillo, Stef Wilson, and Carlos Silva.
