The Lost Boy is an Urban Fantasy Graphic Novel by Greg Ruth.

Nate Castle is a boy who's family has just moved to a new town, and like plenty of kids in that situation, he's not happy about his life just being upended without his consent. When he picks out his room, though, the move suddenly gets much more interesting.

Nate finds a tape recorder hidden under a floor board in his room, complete with a bunch of old reels. When he listens to them, he discovers that there's a whole lot more to the world than he ever knew. And with the help of a new friend he makes, a girl named Tabitha, he goes on to learn about a local mystery in his town called Walter Pidgin, The Lost Boy.

The Lost Boy contains examples of:

  • The '60s: We know it's set in this time period because it's mentioned that John F. Kennedy's president.
  • The Atoner: Walter becomes one after he's brought back from being The Vespertine.
  • The Bully: Curly Bill and his gang from Walter's time.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The comic is drawn in black, white, and grey. The illustrations use thin charcoal-like strokes.
  • Ear Ache: When Walter catches Curly Bill and his gang attacking Tom Button, he comes to his defence, punching Curly Bill and biting his ear.
  • Horse of a Different Color: The Buglings ride into battle on dogs they steal from people and train to be mounts.
  • Living Toys: Many residents of The Kingdom are living toys. The most prominent one is Tom Button the doll.
  • Loose Floorboard Hiding Spot: This is where Nate finds Walter's old recorder and audio logs.
  • Talking Animal: Many residents of The Kingdom are animals who can talk.
  • Was Once a Man: The Vespertine is actually Walter Pidgin, who somehow got turned into a monster and became obsessed with getting the last key so he can unleash The Shadows on the world.
  • When Trees Attack: The Vespertine is a humanoid tree monster.
