"Your sorry plan to kill this woman was just a dream... but the happy reality is I'm going to kill you all!"

The year is 1992 and something sinister had been brewing. No, not that. Or that either. Titans Hunt was a loooong storyline involving evil Titans, killing old Titans and introducing brand New Titans running from New Titans #71-84. Now, this had come and go but now a new storyline was underway that had been sowed in issue #79, the mysterious Time Travelling Teen Titans.

Team Titans is a Spin-Off of the New Titans storylines Titans Hunt and Total Chaos. The title focused on a ragtag team of teenagers from the dystopian future ruled by Lord Chaos who traveled back into the past in order to save it.

The run ended with a tie-in to the Zero Hour: Crisis in Time! event where it was revealed that their leader in the future was the villainous Extant. While his plan was thwarted, the correction of the timeline erased the team out of existence. Ran for 24 issues and two Annuals, it was written by Marv Wolfman from issues #1-11 with Phil Jimenez penning the rest of the run.

Tropes particular to Team Titans:

  • Action Girl: Redwing, Terra II and Mirage kick ass both in the future and in the present time.
  • Alternate Self: Everyone except for Mirage, Tara Markov II and Deathwing.
  • Backstory: Issue #1 had five prints: each edition contained a small segment depicting the origins of one of the Team Titans.
  • Child Soldier: Most of the team were originally a part of Lord Chaos' forces: Killowat, Joshua MacDonald.
  • Crossover Finale: The last issue was a tie-in to the Zero Hour event.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: At first, it appears the group has three female members (Mirage, Terra and Redwing) and two males (Nightrider and Kilowatt), but Redwing has their sixth member on her wrist: it is the digital conscious of her twin brother, Jon.
  • Retgone: The Zero Hour event preserves Mirage, Terra II and Deathwing, and erases their companions Redwing, Prestor Jon, Kilowatt and Nightrider.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: The initial plot of the series, up until the threat of Lord Chaos is extinguished.
  • Smoking Is Edgy: One of the members of this team, who comes from the future, is Battalion, who looks like a living incarnation of a 90s Anti-Hero. He has a giant mane of hair, is described in-universe as a Drill Sergeant Nasty, wears spikes on his shoulders and boots, and uses lots of guns. In first very first on-panel appearance, he uses a giant gun to vaporize a bunch of normal street thugs from present time, chomping a cigar while doing so.
  • Sudden Name Change: Chimera, a minor character in the "Team Titans" era, originally had her full name given as "Sanjeet Rey". However, a later card set by DC called her "Sanjeet Gupta". Even later in the title's (short) run, Chimera gave her name as "Sanjeet Bhatia".
  • Terminator Twosome: In an alternate future, Troia gave birth to a child with godly powers, who became an adult instantly, killed his mother and conquered the world. The Team Titans go back in time to kill Donna Troy and prevent the existence of Lord Chaos. And the one who also goes back in time, to stop them and save Lord Chaos is... Lord Chaos himself.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: One afflicted the Team Titans, who came back to the past to fix a Bad Future, and Lord Chaos, the villain of that Bad Future, came following after them... only for specific details to start to go wrong (including a rather dramatic Retcon that indicated that Lord Chaos, who was originally indicated to have aged himself to adulthood upon birth, to instead suddenly remember that he became Lord Chaos several years later as a child... and yet still somehow expected drama in connection with his birth specifically); and afterwards the Team Titans discover they've apparently returned to a time where they never existed in the first place. Rather than go back to their own past, it seems they all accidentally wound up in an Alternate Universe past.
  • Unto Us a Son and Daughter Are Born: Redwing's backstory established she had a twin brother named Jon, who can meld with computers.

"The time for pawns such as these have passed.
Though you did play them well, leading these Team Titans on quite a chase.
But no longer. Soon your shapes will crumble to dust and sand, to be scattered on the winds of time.
And as they do, the Team Titans will at last fulfill their final destiny...
...and what a glorious destiny that will be."
