Safari callejero (literally "Street Safari") is a 1969 comic from the Spanish series Mortadelo y Filemón by Francisco Ibáñez. It is the third published long story, after Contra el gang del Chicharrón.

A burglar gets into Professor Bacterio's home, thinking he'll be able to get a lot of cash from stealing there, but all he finds is a set of animals that behaves very strangely and attack him. His struggles to escape end up freeing many animals from the house, and, affected by one of the animals, he immediately gives himself up to the police.

The Supervisor immediately calls Mortadelo and Filemón: the animals were subjected to experiments by Bacterio which caused them to exhibit unnatural behaviour of some kind, and now they are all loose in the city, so Mortadelo and Filemón must find them quickly, before they cause too much trouble.

This comic provides examples of:

  • Failed a Spot Check: When it's time to find the elephant, the duo ends up passing right next to it and don't realize.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: As in many other Mortadelo y Filemón stories, the duo has to find a number of elements to fulfill their mission - in this case, Bacterio's animals.
  • Intellectual Animal: The donkey loves reading, and it's found in the local library, reading advanced books.
    • Meanwhile, the dog is a surprisingly skilled thief that keeps selling the stuff it robs to a pawn shop.
  • Literal Metaphor: The police commissioner gives "The Reason You Suck" Speech to a cop, calling him "chicken" for requesting reinforcement to arrest a pickpocket and comparing him to another cop - who shows up just then, clucking like a chicken.
  • Sympathetic Inspector Antagonist: The enemy in this story is a cop who thinks Mortadelo and Filemón are criminals and keeps trying to arrest them.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The owner of the pawn shop where the thief dog sells what it steals never reacts to the fact that it is an animal selling him the stuff.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: The first animal is a vampire bat who has lost its blood thirst and is now The Alcoholic.
  • We Named the Monkey "Jack": The donkey is called Mortadelo, while the monkey is called Filemón. Naturally, neither of them likes Bacterio's naming system.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: The cop that has been chasing after Mortadelo and Filemón (thinking they are big name criminals) arrests them (along with the Súper and Bacterio) at the end of the story - only to learn from his boss that they are famous members of another government agency and quickly demoted to street sweeper.
