Knights Of X is a comic book from Marvel Comics, written by Tini Howard, a Sequel Series to Excalibur (2019).

The series, set in the shared Marvel Universe, is part of the wider X-Men line and launched as part of Destiny of X, the third phase of the long-running Krakoan Age saga

Betsy Braddock, the current Captain Britain, fights to reclaim Otherworld from the mutant-hating forces of Avalon. Also featuring Gambit and Prestige, Gloriana, Bei the Blood Moon, Rictor, Shatterstar, and Shogo Lee.

In July 2022 it was announced that the series would end with issue #5.

A Sequel Series, also written by Howard, Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain, began in February 2023.

Knights of Tropes:

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Shogo is still only a kid who can turn into a dragon, while the rest of the team are all adults of varying ages.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • Mordred, who had been killed during Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade, is revived by the Five and reappears in Otherworld looking younger and more innocent.
    • In issue #5, Gambit is restored to life, after his sacrifice in issue #3.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: How the Siege Perilous works: the users must face sides of themselves.
  • BigBad: Merlyn is the ultimate antagonist of the series.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In issue #5, after Gambit is restored to life, his wife Rogue appears to him and says reinforcements have come. The next panel shows the Krakoan X-Men fighting Merlyn's forces.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Rachel and Betsy, when they’re reunited in Mercator. It’s basically a Splash Panel. With added rainbow butterflies.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • The first issue brings back Kylun, whose last appearance was a cameo during X-Force in 2020.
    • Absolon Mercator, Mister M, after having his absence conspicuously noted, returns as the ruler of Mercator in Otherworld. He was appointed there by Apocalypse to keep the Siege Perilous out of the hands of enemies to mutants.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The Elven village searched by Furies at the start of the first issue is Jackdaw's Nest. Jackdaw was an Elven sidekick to the Black Knight and Captain Britain, later killed by the original Fury.
    • In issues #3 and #5, Gambit's former role as Horseman of Death for Apocalypse is alluded to.
  • Draw Aggro: After some time where people inexplicably start assaulting him, it's concluded that Mordred's mutant ability is to draw aggression out of others.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Otherworld is saved from Merlyn's forces, the Siege Perilous is in Krakoan hands, which also means death in Otherworld is no longer permanent death for mutants, Gambit is revived and restored and Betsy and Rachel join the rest of the Captain Britain Corps in protecting the multiverse.
  • The Empire: Merlyn, Roma Regina's father, is the ruler of Otherworld this time around, overseeing everything from the Lunatic Citadel. He leads a continuous campaign against the 'witchbreed' with his allies, King Arthur (yes, ''that'' Arthur) and Mad Jim Jaspers' Furies.
  • Fantastic Racism: In keeping with Excalibur's theme, inhabitants of Otherworld still derisively call mutants 'witchbreed'. They even use an inhibitor collar infused with Blightswill to dampen mutants' powers.
  • Flashback: In a flashback, it is shown that Apocalypse gave Mr. Mr (Mercator) the Siege Perilous object "in Krakoa's early days".
  • Gambit Pileup: Not involving the actual Gambit. As it turns out, Saturnyne, Roma and Merlyn were all trying to vie for someone's attention. Saturnyne was trying to regain Brian Braddock as her knight and ended up leaving the remaining magicks of the Starlight Citadel in Betsy's sword, Roma tried to earn favor of Betsy and her team via the Siege Perilous and ended up giving the Krakoans the means to travel to and from Otherworld and Merlyn tried to kill off Otherworld's mutants to curry favor for Saturnyne and Roma.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: There are eight members of the cast shown on the cover. Four males (Gambit, Shogo, Rictor, and Shatterstar) and four females (Captain Britain, Prestige, Gloriana, and Bei the Blood Moon). They're quickly joined by Kylun and Mordred, making it 6 males and 4 females. Some issues later, the team has 5 males and 4 females after Gambit is killed.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Apocalypse made sure that, for the mutants to reach the Siege Perilous, a sacrifice must be made. Betsy's friends each comment which will make the sacrifice. Gambit does, opening the way to his teammates to reach the lands of Mercator in their search for the Siege Perilous.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Played absolutely straight in which a magical fantasy land with fairies, elves, wizards, and probably actual trolls, hate mutants calling them witchbreed. Howard makes it clear that she’s aware of how ridiculous this kind of bigotry is especially in such a land.
  • Multinational Team: Betsy, Kylun and Gloriana are British, Rachel and Gambit are American, Rictor is Mexican, Shatterstar is from Mojoverse, Bei is from Arakko and Shogo is Hungarian of Japanese ethnicity (albeit being raised by the Chinese-American Jubilee).
  • Off with His Head!: Betsy does this to Merlyn at the end of the series, though she notes he'll be back somehow.
  • Put on a Bus: Jubilee chooses to leave the team in the first issue.
  • The Quest: In issue #1, Betsy is given a quest by Roma Regina. In the following issues, Betsy and her allies traverse Otherworld in search of the Siege Perilous to claim it on behalf of Krakoa and the mutants.
  • Standard Fantasy Setting: The story is mostly set in Otherworld.
  • Sword and Sorcerer:
    • Rictor retains his druid-esque role from Excalibur, while his partner Shatterstar is the sword-wielding part of the team.
    • Captain Britain is the sword-wielding hero, while Rachel is the sorcerer (in-universe, she is wearing a 'fire priestess' garb).
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Even after everything they've gone through, Betsy and Saturnyne still can't stand each other.
  • Token Human: Shogo is the only human on the team, albeit one who can turn into a dragon.
  • Villain Decay: Downplayed, but Merlyn's Furies are less terrifying and less competent than the original version.
