Indestructible Hulk is a 2012 series by Marvel Comics written by Mark Waid.

Having determined that his condition is incurable (for the present at least), Dr. Bruce Banner approaches S.H.I.E.L.D with an offer — take him in and give him facilities, and Dr. Banner will use his incredible intellect in their service while the Hulk will work for them as a weapon of mass destruction.

Indestructible Hulk provides examples of:

  • The Adjectival Superhero: Indestructible Hulk.
  • The Atoner: Banner is committed to doing far more good for the world than the Hulk has ever done harm.
  • Faster Than They Look: Mark Waid in a interview stated he wanted to illustrate this.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Jokes aside, the Indestructible Hulk series reveals one of Bruce's major issues with being the Hulk is that he's constantly in the shadow of men like Tony Stark and Reed Richards - they'll be remembered by history as men of science, while he'll be remembered as the Hulk, even though he has as much to offer the world as either of them. The fact that neither treats him as an equal doesn't help matters.
  • The Idealist: It is revealed that Bruce was originally a pacifist who wished to develop clean energy sources, but couldn't receive funding, so he developed a bomb for the military instead, with the hope that he could harness gamma power for this purpose. He also consistently used his genius to develop technology for the betterment of mankind during this period, and signed up the Hulk to help the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Illuminati.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: When time travel results in a double-gamma-powered Hulk being created, the past General Ross thinks he can defeat the Hulk with his own standard military resources, unable to comprehend just how outmatched he is as there are so few active superhumans at this time.
  • Odd Friendship: Bruce develops one with Maria Hill in Indestructible Hulk. Although they disagree on most things, he likes that she always gets him back whenever he messed with her. Might cross over into Unresolved Sexual Tension.
  • Mental Time Travel: An unusual case where both physical and mental time travel was involved; Bruce had already physically travelled back in time, but events led to his consciousness being transferred into the Bruce Banner of the past after his body accidentally received a double dose of gamma radiation.
  • Retcanon: The Hulk's new status quo reads just as sensibly as a follow-up to his appearance in The Avengers.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: Hulk is at one point sent to the moment of the gamma explosion that created him and ends up having his present consciousness transferred into his past self while the older Hulk receives a double dose of gamma radiation, turning the older Hulk into an even more powerful but uncontrollable monster while the younger Banner is possessed by his future self.
