Gargoyles: Clan Building is a Comic Book continuation of the animated series Gargoyles. Written by Greg Weisman, one of the original showrunners and primary creator of the franchise, under Slave Labor Graphics. It ran from 2006 to 2008, being canceled after Marvel lost the license. Its plotlines were continued by Weisman a decade and a half later in a new Gargoyles series under Dynamite Comics running from 2022 onwards.

Clan-Building starts right after the show's second season and its existence decanonizes just about every other comic made based on Gargoyles beforehand. It has a Spin-Off in Gargoyles: Bad Guys.

Tropes:

  • Canon Discontinuity: The comics replace The Goliath Chronicles in Gargoyles continuity, de-canonizing that season of the show, apart from its first episode ("The Journey"), which is retold in the first two issues ("Nightwatch" and "The Journey"). From there the continuity completely diverges, although the scene in the issue "Bash" where Hudson comes out as a gargoyle to his blind friend Jeffrey and learns that Jeffrey had already figured it out is based on a similar scene in The Goliath Chronicles that Weisman liked.
  • Twice-Told Tale: The first two issues are a retelling of "The Journey", the only episode of the show's third season, The Goliath Chronicles, that Weisman wrote.
  • Twisted Echo Cut: Near the end of "Invitation Only," this exchange occurs:
Goliath: There is an... entertainment at the castle tonight... I would be honored if you would accompany me.
Delilah: If that is your wish...
Cut to the Quarrymen's headquarters, where Jon Castaway is on the phone.
Castaway: I couldn't care less what he wishes — Tell Chaz no hammers! Not tonight!
