— Description from the Image Comics website

Elsewhere is a 2017-2018 Comic Book Very Loosely Based on a True Story written by Jay Faerber and illustrated by Sumeyye Kesgin.

It surrounds the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, purporting that after getting Lost at Sea, Amelia Earhart and her partner Fred Noonan have to jump out of their airplane, falling into a portal and getting Trapped in Another World, extremely far away from each other. Amelia immediately meets the locals and learns to fly a Steed, going on a quest to find Fred and free the planet’s inhabitants from an Evil Overlord, alongside a tribe of said inhabitants.

Note the tropes below may contain unmarked spoilers for the First-Episode Twist

Elsewhere contains examples of:

  • Alternate History: Presents a universe where both Amelia Earhart and D. B. Cooper are transported into another world and go on an adventure to free said world from a ruthless warlord. Later taken even further as said world has been used by the US Government to create and distribute medicines that do not exist in real life.
  • Ambiguously Bi: D. B. Cooper is shown sitting with lots of women in a bar and has strong romantic subtext with a female character but also frequently essentially flirts with a male character.
  • Arc Villain: The first volume has the despot Lord Kragen whereas the second volume has a scientist working for the United States Government.
  • Big Bad: Lord Kragen is this for the first volume, being The Usurper to the throne of Korvath who rules over the land with an iron fist.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Meyrick, an elderly member of the tribe who appears to just be a parental figure to Cort and Tavel turns out to have given a member of the tribe named Gwenore to the US Government who experiment on her against her will. Upon the discover of this, he is sent away from the group.
  • Deadpan Snarker: D. B. Cooper frequently makes snarky comments about his predicament.
Tavel: Don't read too much into it. I just want to make sure you get through that portal and far away from my people.
    D. B. Cooper: I love you too, man.
  • Evil Former Friend: Lord Kragen is actually Amelia's navigator Fred Noonan, who arrived several years before her due to the portals' time distorting abilities.
  • Evil Overlord: Lord Kragen is a very blatant example, being the despotic ruler of an area of Korvath who killed the previous king and now usurped his thrown. He even has a Cool Helmet to boot!
  • Foil: Amelia Earhart is pointed out as having an unusual trust in authority by today's standards and is generally hopeful and naive, contrasting with D. B. Cooper's snarky attitude.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: While the bespectacled scientist didn’t order Gwenore's experimentation, he was very adamant that she not return home.
  • Hate Sink: Meyrick is revealed to actually be this, making deals with the US Governemnt so that they can experiment on Gwenore against her will, with the finding out of this resulting in instant disgust amongst the main characters and later banishing him from the tribe.
  • Historical Domain Character: The basic premise relies on a lot of this, starring Amelia Earhart and D. B. Cooper. The big reveal of Issue #4 is that Lord Kragen, the Big Bad, is also one, being Amelia's navigator Fred Noonan who she spends the entire story up to that point looking for.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Amelia and D. B. are about to walk through the portal to return home as she says "help is just on the other side of that portal". We are then shown the POV of the other side of the portal, lots of United States soldiers pointing their guns at it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: D. B. Cooper may be a Deadpan Snarker who steals and lies but he’s a hero who forms friendships and emotional bonds with the rest of the cast.
  • La Résistance: The main group is this, rebelling against Lord Kragen's regime, mostly composing of the main two Historical Domain Characters and a tribe of the planet's natives.
  • Loveable Rogue: D. B. Cooper is the same thief he was in real life but has a more snarky and thrill-seeking personality.
  • Mood Whiplash: Amelia and D. B. say their goodbye to Korvath, walking through the portal to Earth… and encounter several United States soldiers shouting at them to get down on the ground.
  • One-Word Title: The main protagonist falls through a portal into some place elsewhere.
  • Wham Line: At the end of Issue #1, when Amelia walks into the cell she expects Fred to be in, the person in the cell states their name:
    D. B. Cooper: Name’s Dan Cooper. But you can call me DB.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Lord Kragen takes his helmet off to Amelia… and reveals Fred Noonan, the person who she’s been searching for the entire comic up to that point.
    • At the end of Issue #5, we see black before the room brightens up to reveal a Korvathian native in a room, who is dragged away by U.S. Soldiers.
