Critter is a superhero comic book from Big Dog Ink.

Cassia Crawford grew up a small-town girl, "Just a li'l critter" raised by her grandmother in rural Michigan. Now, she's a member of the world's premier superhero team. She's inherited a few things from her mother, the now-deceased "Velvet Fox": telekinetic powers and the earband and tail accessories of her costume, which have some interesting capabilities of their own. It's a typical superheroine job: training, fighting supervillains, and fending off aquatic monsters —with the odd mundane mugger thrown in for a change of pace.

But things are changing: The aquatic monsters are getting organized, another superhero team has a lucrative gig on the line, and several factions seem to know more than they should about Cass's "destiny".

Tropes:

  • Animal-Eared Headband: Critter wears an animal-eared headband with cat-like ears. They interface with her natural telekinesis to enhance her focus, and provide additional capabilities of their own: The ears help her to focus her abilities, and extend the reach of her senses. On at least one occasion, they allow her to hear despite the fact that her eardrums have been blown out by a villain's sonic attack.
  • Batter Up!: Sports-themed superheroine Rookie often forms Hard Light baseball bats with which to clobber evildoers.
  • Cat Girl:
    • Critter herself has a belt-on tail and Animal-Eared Headband with cat-like ears. The Prehensile Tail is very handy for grabbing bad guys, and also automatically helps her balance when she's not deliberately controlling it. She often perches on top of a wall or ledge on the balls of her feet and FauxPaws in a "sitting cat" pose.
    • In the volume 2 story arc, the superhero team "Purrrfection" are all cat costumers, though none of them have feline-based capabilities.
  • Catholic School Girls Rule: This is wannabe superheroine School Girl's shtick, although her mentor Critter forces her to tone down the sexual elements from her original outfit.
  • Enhanced Archaic Weapon: Lasso Lass, a member of the superhero team The In Crowd, uses a high-tech lasso as her weapon.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: In the "High Tide" arc, Schoolgirl is trapped atop a buoy by giant crabs, leading to a That Came Out Wrong moment as she calls for help.
  • Hard Light: Rookie is a sports-themed superheroine with the ability to form hard light constructs in the shape of sporting equipment. Baseball and ice hockey seem to be her favorite sports.
  • I Know Madden Kombat: Rookie is a sports-themed superheroine with the ability to form Hard Light constructs in the shape of sporting equipment. Baseball and ice hockey seem to be her favorite sports.
  • Knows the Ropes: Lasso Lass, a member of the superhero team The In Crowd, uses a high-tech lasso as her weapon.
  • Mind over Matter: Cassia is a telekinetic like her mother. However unlike her mother Cass cannot control her abilities effectively and often uses her TK as a stat boost rather than a psionic attack.
  • One-Word Title
  • Prehensile Tail: Critter's tail is a technological accessory that no one on the team really understands. Cass can use it as a fifth limb via her telekinesis, both for mobility and as a weapon for either Tail Slap or to grab someone. The tail has an AI and some form of power source that intelligently cooperates with her and adjusts to her movements when she is not consciously controlling it.
  • That Came Out Wrong: In #14, School Girl is trapped atop a buoy by giant crustaceans. She screams:
"Help! I've got crabs! I mean... Jeez. That's not what I mean."
  • Weaponized Headgear: Critter wears an Animal-Eared Headband with cat-like ears. They interface with her natural telekinesis to enhance her focus, and provide additional capabilities of their own: The ears help her to focus her abilities, and extend the reach of her senses. On at least one occasion, they allow her to hear despite the fact that her eardrums have been blown out by a villain's sonic attack.
