The series is a Spin-Off from the long running Millie the Model series, starring Millie's friend and rival Chili Storm. It tends towards slapstick comedy and Chili, who tends to be vain and self-centered, is frequently on the receiving end.
Although other comics have introduced Chili Storm to the shared Marvel Universe, that's not referenced at all in this series - it's a humor comic full of normal people, with no mention of superheroes, aliens or magic.
The series is largely an Anthology Comic with multiple short Chili stories in each issue - and some issues also include back-up stories starring other characters.
The first issue was released February 11, 1969.
Chili provides examples of:
- Anthology Comic: A typical issue will have at least three short stories.
- Covers Always Lie: Many covers don't reflect the story inside, but that's generally because they're acting as a single-panel joke in their own right.
- Distracted by My Own Sexy: The issue #1 cover gag shows Chili bringing a large mirror to one of Millie's parties, as Millie told her to bring her best friend.
- Distracted by the Sexy: A recurring theme, especially on covers.
- One cover has the gas station attendant who's filling Chili's sports car so distracted that he's pumping it over the back seat instead.
- Another cover shows Chili visiting a language school, with lovestruck students reacting in six different languages.
- Frame-Up: At one point Chili, who's Playing Sick, has the police arrest her own boyfriend Reggie as a prowler so that she can sneak out to a concert without him.
- Meaningful Name: Dolly Dimly, star of some back-up stories, is a Brainless Beauty whose Literal-Minded approach causes no end of trouble.
- Playing Sick: When Chili gets hold of the last ticket for an Arlo & Simon concert she pretends to be ill so that she can cancel her date with Reggie and sneak off to it alone.
- Spin-Off: The series is a spin-off from the various Millie the Model series, which originally introduced Chili. Millie makes occasional appearances in Chili as well, especially on covers.
- Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Chili is often selfish and horrible to everyone around her. And she's usually Hoist by Her Own Petard in some light-hearted way as a result.
