Black Canary: Ignite is a DC Comics graphic novel published under its DC Zoom banner.

Dinah Lance is a normal middle schooler in Gotham City, the daughter of a police detective and a florist, and is in a rock band with her friends. But for some reason, destruction seems to randomly follow Dinah when she so much as speaks a word. But that's not the only thing on her tail...

Tropes in this series include:

  • Adaptation Deviation: Dinah's sonic cry strongly amplifies whatever she says rather than act as a powerful scream.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Bonfire was a one-off villain from the Bronze Age.
  • Animesque: Some of the facial expressions are drawn this way for comical effect, such as Dinah pouting or being embarrassed.
  • Badass in Distress: Dinah's mother is attacked by Bonfire and held hostage by her.
  • The Cameo:
    • It's mentioned that the Joker broke out of Arkham Asylum... again.
    • Commissioner Gordon makes a brief appearance at the crime scene of Dinah Drake's florist shop.
    • One of the bands at Dinah's school is called Green Arrow, though there's nothing showing that they're associated with the superhero (who may not exist yet) or Oliver Queen.
  • Canon Foreigner: The Canary was created for the comic.
  • Happily Married: Dinah's parents are still in madly in love with each other.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Dinah hides her secret about her superpowers from her friends because she's worried that they'll be targeted by Bonfire while also spending more time with the music teacher to train her vocal cords, which upsets her friends because they need to practice for the Battle of the Bands and it seems she doesn't trust them.
  • Meaningful Name: Vogel sounds like "vocal".
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Bonfire is a one-off Black Canary rogue from the Bronze Age comics. Dinah mysteriously had a pyrophobia when she fought Bonfire and discovered that it stemmed from when her mother Dinah Drake fought another villainess with fire powers.
    • At one point, Ted tries covering for one of Dinah's accidents by claiming it must've been from the earthquakes that Gotham sometimes has.
  • No Name Given: Dinah's mother isn't named, presumably to avoid confusing readers over two Dinahs. For the sake of this page, we'll refer to her as Dinah's mother, Mrs. Lance, and Dinah Drake.
  • Pom-Pom Girl: Kat, the head cheerleader, is a laid-back girl with a punk hairstyle and is best friends with Dinah The Hero. She takes cheerleading seriously, viewing it as a challenging job that not everyone can do, but she doesn't demand perfection during tryouts either, "just friendliness, flexibility, and school spirit."
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Principal Vogel thinks that Dinah has telekinetic powers to explain she she's able to destroy things without leaving anything else behind.
  • So Proud of You: Dinah's parents are elated when they learn that Dinah inherited her mother's sonic cry.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Downplayed. While the destruction that Dinah mysteriously leaves behind in her wake is seen as odd and concerning, Principal Vogel (correctly) guesses that Dinah may have undiagnosed superpowers. When Dinah is shocked that she would think that, the principal points out that they live in a world of superheroes and supervillains, so it's not farfetched that someone may suddenly develop superpowers.
