Bill & Ted Go To Hell is Boom! Studios second Bill & Ted comic series after the previous year's Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return.

It was followed a year later by Bill & Ted Save The Universe.


Tropes:

  • Acid-Trip Dimension: When astral projecting to meet Death, Bill and Ted fully through a rainbow tunnel that makes Ted crave Lucky Charms.
  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: When Billy The Kid tells Rufus that him destroying the future is only an Ironic Hell and that he really saved it, Rufus decides that he's kind of a big deal.
  • Aside Glance: After finding out Napoleon has adult Little Bill and Ted working for him, Death ends issue #3 by looking at the reader and saying "Oh, this is no good at all".
  • Asteroids Monster: When they have to quickly fix the phonebooth, Stations splits into dozens of foot-tall Stations.
  • Amusement Park of Doom: Napoleon converts Hell into a giant water park.
  • Astral Projection: Missy can project Bill and Ted out of their bodies so they can visit Death.
  • Awkward Father-Son Bonding Activity: Missy makes De Nomolos gomwith Bill and Ted to rescue Death from Hell so he can bond with them as he's their new stepfather (sort of).
  • Badass Finger Snap;
    • Napoleon summons the heroes by clicking his fingers when Death says bringing them to safety is the only way he'll let him play Chess with Death.
    • Death tries to do it to transport everybody to Heaven but finds Napoleon locked him out.
  • Barred from the Afterlife: Colonel Oats says he's taking Death to Hell where Bill and Ted can't follow. The duo are thrilled at being banned from Hell.
  • Berserk Button: De Nomolos is pretty meek until he sees that Napoleon has kidnapped Missy and intends to marry her.
  • Big Red Devil: The giant one from Bogus Journey is shown chained up.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Death gets his powers stripped again, this time by Napoleon.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: God and Satan decided not to tell Death about Purgatory because he's terrible at keeping secrets.
  • Canon Discontinuity: Seems to ignore parts of Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return which ended with De Nomolos in jail in the future.
  • Casual Time Travel: Billy The Kid visits Socrates a lot, so did the duo with Napoleon. They even took Napoleon on a tour of America's water parks.
  • Catapult Nightmare: The duo when they wake up from astral projecting.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Inverted with Death remembering that Napoleon was crap at bowling in the first movie and challenging him to a game for the fate of the universe.
  • Chess with Death: Napoleon challenges him to it to get access to Heaven. Sadly Death majorly underestimated his skills.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: De Nomos previous love interest, Claudia from Most Triumphant Return is forgotten with him married to Missy like the newspaper in Bogus Journey's credits said.
  • Damsel in Distress: Napoleon kidnaps Missy and intends to marry her.
  • Damsel out of Distress: When Bill and Ted Go to rescue the princesses from their Ironic Hell, they find they've already beaten their suitors and several knights unconscious.
  • Demonic Possession: The living Colonel Oats gets possessed by the version from Hell.
  • Demon of Human Origin: Napoleon gave the princes Joanna and Elizabeth were supposed to marry the ability to transform into winged Big Red Devils.
  • Distressed Dude: The plot kicks off with Death getting kidnapped. Little Bill and Ted later get taken as well.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Elizabeth found Bill's dad curled up on the floor with a bottle of spirits, calling Missy's name.
  • Dual Wielding: When he finds that Napoleon has Missy, De Nomolos immediately grabs a sword and a flaming spear.
  • Dying Clue: When the gang get to Heaven they find one of the good robot's hands beside the message, "babies taken".
  • Easily Forgiven: De Nomolos is free and allowed to live in the nineties, Missy mentions that all charges were cleared.
  • Enlightenment Superpowers: Divine enlightenment is the only thing that Napoleon didn't take from God. He bestows it on the duo which lets them see electrons, through space and time and know how to reason with their sons. This power fades shortly after they get home.
  • Eternal English: Joan of Arc and Napoleon can speak English now, when they couldn't in the movie.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Bill and Ted are horrified when Napoleon Bonaparte used their stories of Hell from Bogus Journey to conquer it.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Bill and Ted successfully appeal to their brainwashed sons by offering them a chanc eto meet their mothers.
  • Exorcist Head: Colonel Oats can rotate his head 180 degrees.
  • Expy: Ted gets attacked by Fearwolf in Hell, from the in-universe movie of the same name. He's basically a werewolf Freddie Krueger.
  • False Friend: Napoleon says he was never friends with Bill and Ted and just tolerated them to get information.
  • Fisher King: Satan says he can't go to save Heaven because Hell would literally fall apart without him though he's later seen in Limbo.
  • Flaming Sword;
    • An angel attacks Joan of Arc with one in her Ironic Hell. John Wilkes Booth ends up wielding it against Abe Lincoln later on.
    • De Nomolos later grabs a flaming spear when going to rescue Missy.
  • Flat "What": Captain Logan when Ted tells him to shoot any demons that show up while they're away.
  • Fountain of Youth: At the end Little Bill and Ted ask God to turn them back into babies before they reunite with their mothers.
  • A God Am I: Napoleon: As for God...... you're looking at him.
  • Hell Gate: Colonel Oats pulls Death through one to get him away from Bill and Ted.
  • Hell Has New Management: Napoleon takes over Hell. De Nomolos offers to step in while the former is invading Heaven but Billy The Kid quickly shuts him down.
  • Hell Invades Heaven: Napoleon starts on Heaven after taking over Hell.
  • Hipster: The "librarian lumberjack" that Bill and Ted meet in their Ironic Hell.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: Napoleon Bonaparte was never quite bad enough in real life that he tried to conquer Heaven and Hell.
  • House Husband: De Nomolos walks around Missy's house, cleaning in an apron.
  • Interdimensional Travel Device: Like in Bill & Ted's Excellent Comic Book, the phonebooth is shown to be able to take people to Hell. Rufus says that Hell is an unlisted number that he could only get because his friend works for the phone company.
  • Ironic Hell;
    • Bill and Ted's Hell is a version of 2016 where Wyld Stallyns aren't cool any more and have finished a So Very Tired Tour.
    • Elizabeth and Joanna end up back in medieval England, forced to marry the princes from the first movie.
    • Rufus ends up in a wartorn Bad Future that Bill and Ted failed to save.
    • De Nomolos has Missy leave him for a bigger, stronger version of himself who never reformed.
    • Abraham Lincoln getting shot at onstage by John Wilkes Booth. Booth admits this makes no sense to Abe because he hasn't died yet from his own perspective.
    • Billy The Kid getting lectured to change his ways by various loved ones.
    • Joan of Arc gets attacked by an angel for not killing the devil when she had the chance.
  • Kneel Before Zod: Napoleon tries to get Bill, Ted and Death to "supplicate" at his feet when they confront him in Heaven.
  • Laser Blade: Station gives one to Abraham Lincoln to fight off John Wilkes Booth's Flaming Sword.
  • Monster Clown: A huge one called Boppo attacks Bill in Hell, based on one that terrified him at a birthday once.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: After conquering Heaven, Napoleon gives Granny S. Preston Esquire six arms.
  • Multiversal Conqueror: Napoleon invades Hell and Heaven.
  • My Name Is Inigo Montoya: "I am Chuck De Nomolos! Dutiful husband to Missy De Nomolos! Now feel the wrath of my bliss!".
  • Narnia Time;
    • Satan says that using the phonebooth to travel to a different time to escape Hell wouldn't work because the laws of time are different there. He says having all instances of time occuring at once helps to run a tight ship.
    • Something like this is implied to be going in Heaven with Little Bill and Ted saying their fathers weren't around when they were growing up, implying they aged normally there for years instead Napoleon Rapid Aging them.
  • Omnibus: It was collected in the Bill & Ted Omnibus with Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return and Bill & Ted Save The Universe.
  • Pals with Jesus: Station seems to be friendly with God at the end.
  • Purgatory and Limbo: Purgatory is a hidden dimension between Heaven and Hell that only God and Satan know about. It's later referred to as Limbo or else Limbo is an identical mist-filled void where Napoleon gets banished for eternity.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Colonel Oats' eyes glow red when he attacks Ted.
  • Rescued from the Underworld: The gang have to go and rescue Death from Hell.
  • Reset Button: The deal that if Death beats Napoleon at bowling then he has to put everything back to normal.
  • Retroactive Preparation;
    • When the boys are about to ring Rufus for help, he appears behind them saying that at some point in the future they're going to ring and tell him to meet them at that place and time.
    • When trying to decide who'll look after the babies when everybody's in Hell, Ted's dad walks in saying they rang him then cuts himself off saying it's one of those time travel things.
  • Robot Rebellion: When Rufus is in his Ironic Hell warzone, he asks if service-bots gained sentience again.
  • Rock Me, Asmodeus!: Bill and Ted refer to Hell as the most metal place in the universe and when Joan suggests asking Satan for help they think it's Excellent that she wants them to run with the devil like Van Halen.
  • Sand In My Eyes: After hearing a heartfelt speech from Captain Logan about Bill and Ted being good hearted people, Death dabs his eyes and says it seems there's Heaven for allergies aswell.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Missy persuades De Nomolos to help rescue Death from Hell by pointing out that it might improve his childhood with his peers in the future no longer seeing him as a villain.
  • Shout-Out: Death has a Nyan Cat calendar.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Billy the Kid shoots off Napoleon's hat and says "Enough jawbonin" when he's in the middle of a monologue.
  • Stairway to Heaven: Napoleon uses an upwards flowing waterslide to get to Heaven which Ted calls a "spillway to Heaven". Sadly, the heroes can't use it.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: Bill and Ted want their wives to stay home and look after the babies while they're in Hell until Captain Logan steps in.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Station is back in Heaven rather than living with Bill and Ted like in the previous comic.
  • Talking in Your Sleep: Bill's dad calls out Missy's name in his sleep.
  • Tap on the Head: Colonel Oats knocks Death out by banging his head against a wall.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: When Joan of Arc suggest the gang work with the devil to get control of Hell back.
  • Thrown Out the Airlock: Rufus defeats Granny S. Preston Esquire by taking her in the phonebooth to a distant nebula and throwing her out of it.
  • The Un Favourite: Ted meets a baby Deacon in Hell who says he'll always be around to make their dad love him more than Ted.
  • Wing Ding Eyes: When knocked out, Death's eyes are black with red X's.
  • Your Mom: When Satan says Death is terrible with secrets, Death says that Satan's mother is terrible with secrets.
