Without makeup but still a Kyoshi Warrior

Suki, Alone is a standalone graphic novel set in the Avatar Franchise, following Suki.

It is an Interquel between the episodes "Appa's Lost Days" and "The Boiling Rock, Part 1", which shows what happened to Suki, the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors after being defeated and imprisoned by Azula and her friends and before Sokka and Zuko rescued her.

Suki, Alone provides examples of:

  • Ambiguous Situation: At the end, Suki is comforted by a vision of Avatar Kyoshi. However it's unclear if Kyoshi's spirit really appeared to her or if it was Suki's imagination.
  • Any Last Words?: In a non-lethal way, Azula asks this to Suki before sending her to the Boiling Rock. However Suki decides to stay silent, even when Azula asks her if she had a message to "that guy with the boomerang" (referring to Sokka).
  • But Now I Must Go: Mingxia, after failing to convince Oyaji and the others island leaders to open the island's borders to the rest of the world, decides to leave the island and go to mainland as she wanted to meet new people and have new experiences. Suki and the other warriors soon follow suit after Zuko's attack in their village to help people.
  • City in a Bottle: Rather Island, as Kyoshi Island isolated itself from the rest of the world to the point they refused to buy food from other nations, which almost led the island to suffer from famine if Suki and her sisters didn't find dumpling weeds.
  • Close-Knit Community: Kyoshi Island village was this, they had a communal kitchen from where a young Mingxia stole steamed buns for her sisters. Suki later tries to form this with the other prisoners with Biyu to have a chance of escape, only to be betrayed by the latter to the Warden.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Azula learns Sokka's name and calls Suki her favorite prisoner, as she mentioned in "The Day of Black Sun, Part 2: The Eclipse".
    • The Bully Guard who harassed Chit Sang in the Boiling Rock, part 1, is seen taunting Suki in the gondola when she arrived to the prison.
    • Suki remembers when she and her Kyoshi Warrior sisters were cleaning up the village after Zuko's attack in Kyoshi Island in "The Warriors Of Kyoshi". Also this motivates her and some of her sisters to leave the island and aid in the war, as mentioned by Oyaji in "Avatar Day". Suki also had a flashback of reuniting with Mingxia when she was a security guard at the ferry station as seen in the "The Serpent's Pass".
    • Sokka and Zuko arrive to the prison, although they were there to rescue Hakoda.
  • Denied Food as Punishment: The Boiling Rock prisoners were only allowed to eat an awful tasting slop which wasn't enough to keep them healthy, which gets Suki and Biyu to secretly plant nutritious Dumpling weed legumes to regain their strength, however they were discovered and Biyu betrayed Suki and got rewarded by the Warden with better food.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: Biyu asks Suki if she believed they were friends after being confronted by her betrayal toward her and their fellow prisoners.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Suki gets these after spending two weeks in a cramped cell in solitary confinment and sleep deprived as her punishment.
  • False Friend: Biyu to Suki, as she only went with her plan of cultivating a secret legume garden to have better food, but when they were discovered by the guards, Biyu revealed their secret garden to the Warden to save herself from punishment.
Biyu: Come on Suki, did you really believe we were friends? That I was one of your Kyoshi Warrior sisters? Please!
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Azula taunts Suki by reminding her she's going from being the leader of a respected group of warriors to a mere prisoner and that her sisterhood were in ruins thanks to her mistakes.
  • In the End, You Are on Your Own: The Warden tells Suki that she has no friends in the Boiling Rock
Warden: In the Boiling Rock, every fool is for themselves.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: For Biyu, as she may have gotten privileges in the prison, but she's still imprisoned in the Boiling Rock, and it's unlikely she would be released from the prison anytime soon. Plus Suki will be busting out of the prison very soon, while Biyu will still be essentially rotting in the Boiling Rock.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Suki's plan of building a community in the prison failed and she's still imprisoned, however at the end Sokka and Zuko arrive to the prison and will ultimately rescue her.
  • Series Continuity Error:
    • Here Kyoshi Island is stated to be isolated from the rest of the world and depending upon agriculture which almost led them to famine. However in "The Warriors of Kyoshi", they are seen fishing and trading with other people, which was what allowed Zuko to find Aang.
    • Azula taunts Suki about her relationship with Sokka. However Azula only found out about it in "The Crossroads of Destiny", which happened long after this.
    • Sokka and Zuko arrive at the Boiling Rock at day, while in the series, they arrived at night.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Biyu betrayed Suki and her fellow prisoners giving their secret garden to the Warden, who rewarded her with privileges like a fancy room, a better uniform and better food.
  • The Power of Friendship: The Warden acknowledged that having friends would make prison life easier to survive, but told Suki that she had no friends there and that she was completely alone.
  • The Reveal:
    • It was shown that Suki wanted to become a Kyoshi Warrior since her childhood.
    • Suki had a best friend named Mingxia who didn't believe in the island's isolation from the rest of the world.
    • The Kyoshi Warriors had a type of meditation where they employed battle moves.
    • The Prisoners of the Boiling Rock were fed with a slop which wasn't nutritious to intentionally keep them starved and demoralized.
    • Unruly non-bending prisoners were locked up in cramped cells as solitary confinment, instead of the cooler.
  • True Companions: Suki with Mingxia and their fellow Kyoshi Warriors.
    Sisters forever!
  • You Are Not Alone: Suki constantly repeated this to herself, however after her plan failed and after remembering all she went through with Mingxia and her Kyoshi Warrior sisters only to see herself in her cell without anyone else to support her now, she broke down in tears, but Kyoshi appeared to her telling her this, and soon arrived Sokka and Zuko:
Avatar Kyoshi: Suki, your friends love you, they haven't abandoned you, you're not alone!.
    Suki: How do you know?
(Sokka and Zuko are seen flying outside the prison)
