The third Adventure Time comic Spin-Off miniseries, written by Ananth Panagariya and Yuko Ota, with art by Ian McGinty.
When Finn and Jake disappear, Princess Bubblegum appoints Peppermint Butler and Cinnamon Bun as a replacement hero duo. Peppermint Butler seeks the missing Finn and Jake, while deputising various pairs of characters to solve problems.
Candy Capers has the following tropes:
- Bad Cop/Incompetent Cop: Marceline and Tree Trunks are particularly incompetent and self-indulgent.
- Continuity Cavalcade: The horde of Z-listers Peppermint Butler recruits to attack the maze.
- Continuity Nod: Goliad and Stormo are seen still locked in their psychic combat, and being cleaned by Banana Guards.
- Cool Shades: Princess Bubblegum puts some on before sending Peppermint Butler's rampaging Golem to the Vacation Dimension.
- Da Chief: Peppermint Butler to all the other characters. Princess Bubblegum to Peppermint Butler.
- Dark Action Girl: Agent Princess pretends to be a female Tuxedo and Martini superspy, but is actually just a pyromaniac sociopath.
- Destructive Saviour: Susan Strong and Ice King accidentally trash the village they were meant to be protecting.
- Dirty Old Man: Susan is deeply disturbed by Ice King trying to persuade her to dress and act as Fionna.
- Golem: Peppermint Butler eventually creates a conjoined-twin Golem parody of Finn and Jake to guard the Candy Kingdom. Inevitably, it goes berserk.
- Good Cop/Bad Cop: Tree Trunks and Marceline. Marceline is a bit disappointed when Tree Trunks insists on being Bad Cop.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: LSP and Lemongrab end up like this after being mauled and infected by various types of implausible XXXX-Wolves.
- Painting the Medium:
- Peppermint Butler has white-on-red speech bubbles with jagged outlines when his evil side comes out.
- Tree Trunks has speech bubbles with red text when she's playing Rabid Cop.
- Marceline and Lumpy Space Princess have speech bubbles with violet and pink backgrounds respectively, and several of the minor characters have coloured speech bubbles.
- Poke the Poodle: Bad Haircut Wizard cursed Charlie Mayor to always have a bad haircut.
- Private Eye Monologue: Peppermint Butler does this at various points.
- Rabid Cop: Tree Trunks gets drunk with power and starts fulfilling her fantasies of being this.
- "Shaggy Dog" Story:
- It turns out that Princess Bubblegum sent Finn and Jake to the "Vacation Dimension" so she could test what would happen if they weren't available.
- After Peppermint Butler's horde of Z-listers fight their way through the maze, it turns out the entity at the centre was doing Princess Bubblegum's dry cleaning.
- Turn in Your Badge: Played with, as Peppermint Butler is ordered to turn in his badge and gum, so he spits out a wad of gum that Princess Bubblegum returns to her hair.
- Waddling Head: The entity that turns out to have been stomping the village Ice King and Susan were sent to protect has this kind of body.
