Asuka Tennoji

- Nice Guy: Seems to be his defining characteristic.
- Oblivious to Love: He interprets Aina's love confession as her liking him as a friend.
- Skewed Priorities: Keeps working at his job while Ayase and Azumi are fighting Z/X users trying to invade the city.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Is afraid of heights.
Ayase Kamiyugi
- Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro
Tropes:
- Damsel in Distress: Toward the end of the series, Ayase is absorbed by Audium and requires saving.
- Freudian Excuse: Her parents were murdered by angels, which is why she's hunting them.
- Red Baron: Angel Killer.
- Revenge: The reason she kills angels is to avenge the death of her parents.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Appearance-wise, she takes after her mother, having the same blond hair and green eyes as her.
Azumi Kagamihara
- Voiced by: Yui Ogura
Tropes:
- Big Eater: Despite her small stature, Azumi can eat several plates of food in a row.
- Disease Bleach: The ending credits of the last episode show that she originally brown hair.
- Living MacGuffin: For the Blue World. According to Administrator Vega, she's important for their future.
Chitose Aoba
- Voiced by: Maaya Uchida
Tropes:
- Hot-Blooded: She is quick to anger, as demonstrated in the first episode when Sieger calls her flat.
- Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Rindou who is at least a head taller than she is.
- Older Than She Looks: She doesn't look like she's 19.
Mikado Kurosaki
- Voiced by: Yūichi Nakamura
Tropes:
- Frontline General: While he's not fighting himself, what with him being a normal human, Mikado isn't afraid of being near the scene of the fights.
- Hypercompetent Sidekick: While Alexander is publicly in charge, It's Mikado who seems to determine everything around that, arguably to the point of being The Man Behind the Man.
- Improbable Age: Despite being 18 years old, he's the strategist for an army.
- The Strategist: Acts as Alexander's. Unfortunately, the latter has a tendency of acting on his own and not listening to him.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: He is willing to sacrifice the city of Kobe in order to lure Audium out in the open. However, he plans to evacuate the citizens beforehand.
Sera Kurashiki
- Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto
Tropes:
- Child Soldiers: Mikado had no compunctions about recruiting her to his cause. But this may be more about keeping her close by(she bears a strong resemblance to what appears to be a lost little sister), than it is about controlling the Gigantic that's imprinted on her.
- Fluffy Tamer: Her Z/X partner is a dinosaur.
- Identical Stranger: Resembles Mikado's younger sister.
- Missing Mom: Her mother is a reporter who went missing. Sera is currently looking for her.
- Morality Pet: For Mikado, possibly due to the aforementioned Identical Stranger above.
- Token Mini-Moe: The youngest among the main cast, being nine years old.
Aina Mikage
- Voiced by: Yuriko Endo
Tropes:
- Fantastic Racism: She hates Z/X because one killed her parents.
- Not So Similar: With Ayase. Both lost their families to Z/X but unlike Ayase, she didn't choose to take revenge.
Misaki Yuzuriha

- Chekhov's Gunman: She appears several times over the course of the story but it's not until episode 9 that she becomes relevant.
- Idol Singer: Her main occupation, although she also appears to be an actress and Gravure model.
Z/X
Fierte the Pride
- Voiced by: M.A.O

Tropes:
- Bridal Carry: How she carries Asuka around while flying.
- Character Tics: Playing with her hair.
- Healing Hands: She possess the ability to heal others.
- Pride: As indicated by her name. Might be a case of Informed Attribute since she doesn't seem to be especially prideful.
- Winged Humanoid: Being an angel, she has two wings on her back. She can make them appear and disappear.
Sieger the Black Blade
- Voiced by: Kazuhiko Inoue

Tropes:
- Blood Knight: He likes fighting.
- Mars Needs Women: Despite being a huge winged panther, he certainly has a healthy appreciation for the Humanoid female form. Especially Ayase's.
- Mix-and-Match Critters: He looks like a large feline, but he also has wings and his tail appear to be reptilian in appearance.
- Panthera Awesome: He resembles a panther.
Sword Sniper, Rigel
- Voiced by: Aya Uchida
Tribe: Battle Dress
Tropes:
- BFG: Uses one in combat.
- Meaningful Name: Befitting someone called Sword Sniper, she uses a sword and a gun.
- Stellar Name: Is named after Rigel, the brightest star in the Orion constellation.
Rindou
- Voiced by: Shintarō Asanuma
Tribe: Hourai
Tropes:
- Everything's Better with Samurai: Appears to be one.
- Planimal: Has two branches growing from his forehead like horns.
- Undying Loyalty: Encountered Chitose crying over her Z/X that had been killed, heedless of the one that had killed it and was about to do the same to her. He was so moved that she cared so much about a perceived enemy that he saved her and chose to replace the slain were-racoon and stay by her side.
Alexander
- Voiced by: Nobuyuki Hiyama

Tropes:
- The Ace: One of the Nine Worthies, the strongest Bravers.
- Blood Knight: He likes to fight a lot.
- Calling Your Attacks: Ruler's Earthquake Spear. He's the only character in the series to do so.
- Super-Soldier: As a Braver, he is genetically engineered with the genes and memories of famous warriors and commanders. So when we say "Alexander", we mean "...The Great."
Orihalcum Tyranno
Tribe: Gigantic
- Imprinting: Sera was the first thing he saw after hatching.
- Horse of a Different Colour: Serves as Sera's method of transportation.
Apex of Order Sagarmatha
Tribe Guardian
- Defector from Decadence: Strongly disagreed with the purging of Ayase's home village, and was the one who saved her life at the price of exiling himself from the White World. This would have been fatal had he not met Misaki.
Twelve Apostles - Aquarius Gambiel

- Faux Affably Evil
- Minor Injury Overreaction: Her response to having her face cut by Sieger? Attempt to murder him and Ayase.
- Our Angels Are Different: Unlike the other angels in the series, she doesn't have wings.
- Perpetual Smiler: Is always smiling. Except in episode 12, when Michael tells her to return to the white world.
- There Was a Door: Enters Asuka's dorm room by blowing up the wall.
Hate Fiend, Audium
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Originally human-sized, she later becomes as tall as a building when she reappears during Mikado's invasion.
- Mana Drain: Audium has the ability to take absorb resources from other Z/X.
- One-Winged Angel: Evolves into a stronger form at the end of episode 11.
- Prehensile Hair: Audium can manipulate her hair and use it for attacking or restricting others.
- You Don't Look Like You: Her appearance in the series is quite different from how she is depicted in the card game.

- Attack Drones: Has a few she uses for long-range combat and can summon more if they are destroyed.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Type.II's eyes are red and she isn't to be taken lightly.
- Super Prototype: She's the original model Rigel is based on, and is able to hold her own against the latter, Fierté, and Rindou at the same time.
- Stripperiffic: Her outfit leaves a lot of skin exposed.
