Organization and Species Tropes
- The Vitakarians are known as the "template race", commonly accepted as the precursor to the other sub-species. They resemble grey-skinned humans, but taller, and completely bald.
- The Borelians are cold-dwelling aliens with a more militaristic outlook. Their most visible adaptation to the cold climate of the Wastes is their distinctive fur.
- The Dath'Haram are pacifistic jungle dwellers, notable for their distinctive green skin.
- The Cobrarians are the most well-adapted to life in the deserts of Vitakar. As their name implies, they are essentially snake-like in appearance.
- The Oyariah adapted to living underground, and are one of the more unique-looking sub-species, with a stone-like carapace over their skin, greater strength, and excellent sight in the dark.
- The isolationist Sar'Manda live in the oceans, rarely intervening in the affairs of the surface world, or even the wider Collective.

Organization Tropes
The Nulorian are the largest and longest-lasting dissident group among the Vitakara. Their stated goal is to break the Vitakara free of Ethereal rule, and they're willing to resort to acts of terrorism in order to achieve their goals. They have formed an alliance with ADVENT and XCOM, who have provided them with soldiers and resources to facilitate their objectives.
Miridian
Miridian, true name unknown
The enigmatic leader of the Nulorian movement, Miridian is believed to have been an ex-Zararch agent who started to move against the Collective and the Aui'Vitakar to break their hold on the Vitakara.- Deal with the Devil: Is revealed to have stuck one with Gabriel some time prior to the events of the story, one that he's tried to break before.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Miridian is the only name he's known by. No one appears to know what his real name is.
- Meaningful Name: Named after an artificial planet built by a distant species which rose in revolt against the Sovereign Ones. He uses it as a symbol of defiance against higher powers; in his case, the Ethereals.
Sorras

A Nulorian Bladedancer, and a far cry from typical Dath'Haram; Sorras is a psychopathic fighter who launches attacks on the Dath'Haram, in order to force a change in their general mindset.- Blood Knight: Sorras is disturbingly eager to fight and kill, especially by Dath'Haram standards.
Siaru
Siaru
An ancient artificial intelligence of unknown origin. It was responsible for setting Miridian on the path to dissidence.- Ambiguously Evil: Certain elements associated to Siaru (black and red technology, the vessel it was found in, its mention of a "Prime Intelligence") heavily imply it to be Synthesized/Reaper in origin, which bears unpleasant implications regarding its aid of the Nulorian.
- The Nicknamer: Miridian's name is owed to Siaru. It is derived from an artificial planet of the same name, built by a civilization from another galaxy, symbolizing defiance against the higher forces of the universe.
