    Wards

Matrix

AKA Taylor Hebert, the protagonist of our story. She did not trigger in the locker, instead fake-triggering with a connection to Primus. This gives her the tinker-like ability to create Cybertronian tech, as well as the ability to fix technology and to 'Spark' mechanical objects, turning them into sapient robots.
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: Gets completely wrecked during the final part of the battle with Leviathan, but not only did she hold him off by herself, she also managed to damage the Endbringer's core, mortally wounding him.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Due to possessing a shard of Primus in her, she can create Cybertronians, as well as their technology.
    • Unlike other tinkers, she also knows how her creations work, so she can have them mass-produced.
  • Reed Richards Is Useless: Averted. While most Tinkertech is unsuitable for mass-production because it can only be maintained by the tinker who made it (and can't be understood even by them), Matrix, since she has the Sliver of Primus instead of a shard, makes Cybertronian tech instead of normal tinkertech, and is totally capable of mass-producing it and even reverse-engineering regular tinkertech and making that mass-producible. She's been shifting the balance of power in Brockton Bay just by being able to distribute her tech to Muggle PRT soldiers and police and make them just a little less squishy.
  • Secret Public Identity: Greg ended up outing her on PHO, so while she goes by the codename of Matrix when patrolling, everyone knows who she is.
  • The Sleepless: Stopped needing to sleep after getting a power boost from Primus. Downplayed, though, in that she does sleep from time to time in order to relax.

Tattletale

Former member of the Undersiders, now part of the Guild, but works side by side with the Wards.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Downplayed, as while she has had a Heel–Face Turn, she hasn't changed all that much from who she was. She was Trapped in Villainy in canon, but here she manages to get out from under Coil.
  • Damsel in Distress: Is kidnapped by a Dragonslayer mercenary working for Coil, and the teleporter used by the kidnapper leaves her with radiation sickness.
  • Mission Control: Acts as this, being based on the Rig when the rest of the team is on missions. Since she has Teletran and Laserbeak to observe the battle with, this doesn't really hinder her at all.
  • Spanner in the Works: Lung and Regent end up becoming this to her, as their actions cause Coil to find out about her plans to break away from him, which he quickly moves to correct.
    • In turn, she becomes this to Coil by defecting to the Guild.
    The Autobots
Matrix's creations.

Rewind

Taylor's first autobot, whose alt-mode is a phone.
  • Number Two: To Matrix.
  • Spanner in the Works: The phone that was sparked into Rewind had previously been used to record Taylor being shoved into the locker. Once sparked, Rewind was able to put the video on the internet, blowing the cover-up attempt out of the water.
  • Voice with an Internet Connection: Acts as one when Taylor begins her hero career and fills the role when the others are preoccupied.

Rung

Taylor's second Autobot, he's the team's psychiatrist.

Wheeljack

Taylor's third Autobot, and a talented engineer in his own right.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: A given, considering he's based on the IDW version of Wheeljack.
  • Mad Scientist: Downplayed, but he can get a little too enthusiastic/reckless with his experiments sometimes.
  • Saying Too Much: Dragon has to edit his comments on a PHO thread because he said some sensitive information regarding containment foam.

Predaqueen

Taylor's fourth Autobot, originally one of Dragon's suits. Taylor sparked her in desperation to get rid of Lung. Later becomes Dragon's main body.
  • Gender Swap: Her basis, Predaking, is normally a male transformer.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Was initially stuck in Draconic form due to only part of her mind being present and lacking Energon. After Dragon uses her as her main body, she loses this issue.
    • After Predaqueen's spark is transferred to a new, smaller body, she still has this issue for several weeks.

    Concert

Concert as a whole

A hero team sponsored by NKT-Galactic, and shoved out into public before they were ready. They have some serious teamwork issues because of this.

  • Engineered Heroics: It's implied NKT-Galactic, the company sponsoring Concert, staged many of the crimes they stopped
  • Expy: the entire team is loosely based on characters from other franchises. Mostly the Fantastic Four.
  • Five-Token Band: Invoked by their sponsor for marketing reasons and to counter accusations of racism.
  • Only in It for the Money: With the possible exception of Duette.
  • Theme Naming: Invoked. Concert is sponsored by NKT-Galactic – a media company- and all have names around that theme.

Bass

The team leader, and a former soldier who was court-martialed and dishonorably discharged for an unknown reason.
  • The Big Guy: The largest team member, and the team Brute.
  • Court-martialed: Was kicked out of the army for an unspecified event
  • Expy: Loosely based on Captain America. He’s an old soldier with super strength.
  • The Generic Guy: His powers are a basic Brute package, and he doesn't get much focus compared to Lightshow with her looks and erratic behavior, Treble being a drunken idiot, and Duette trying desperately to be a serious hero despite being a Concert member. He does seem to actually work at being a hero and doesn't act out like Lightshow and Treble, but that's pretty much it.
  • The Leader: His role.

Duette

The team token Asian. Before being a member of Concert she was a vigilante, and she's still the only one who actually takes her job seriously.

  • But Not Too Foreign: Born to Japanese parents who moved to Britain before she was even born.
  • Expy: Her appearance is based on ninjas, and her power is similar to Blake Belladonna.
  • Gratuitous Ninja: She is forced to dress in a fan-servicy ninja outfit and wear a Japanese fox mask by her bosses. She's actually British, though she's of Asian ethnicity.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: While not a sidekick, she's the only one on the team that works hard to be a real hero.
  • Only Sane Man: The most sensible member of the team.
  • The Speechless: She’s mute due to damage to her throat. She uses sign language to talk.
  • Token Minority: Enforced by her bosses. She was specifically picked for the team because she’s Asian.
  • Vigilante Man: The only thing known about her background is that she was a vigilante before joining Concert.

Lightshow

The team blonde bombshell, notable because the Most Common Superpower that she has in spades isn't overly common in Worm. Has a tendency towards mood swings, acting without thinking, and generally being a hormonal idiot despite also being a grown-up.

  • Amazonian Beauty: Mentioned to be very tall and muscular as well as beautiful.
  • A-Cup Angst: :Was originally this until she started taking tinker-tech medicine.
  • Attention Whore: Perfectly happy to pose for the camera instead of trying to protect civilians.
  • Boob-Based Gag: Her large breasts are the subject of much discussion, from speculation about if they're real to comments that she needs a better bra.
  • Brainless Beauty: Played with. She’s not actually stupid, but the medication she’s been taking is making her act without thinking.
  • Expy: Looks like Power Girl/Supergirl (tall, blonde, busty). Wears a costume based on She-Hulk: and has a power that lets her create fireworks like Jubilee:
  • Glory Hound: Is only on the team for the money and the fame
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: Sort of. Lightshow is a grown woman (Approx 23), but the drugs she’s been taking are messing with her head, making her act more like a horny teenager than the actual teenagers in the story.
  • It's All About Me
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Charges into an in-progress robbery without waiting for basic recon, potentially turning it into a hostage situation.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Second tallest member of the team.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Decks Panacea in public, while in full view of the Wards and Glory Girl.

Treble

The team black guy. Was a recovering alcoholic before Concert was forced to into the spotlight early, and left rehab before it was complete. Needless to say, this was a bad idea.
  • The Alcoholic: Was in rehab but left early as the team was forced into action prematurely.
    • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Decides to pick a fight with Hookwolf while drunk. Taylor has to knock him out to keep him from throwing insults and escalating things.
  • Expy: Was based on the villain Shriek from Batman Beyond.
  • Glory Hound: Is only on the team for the money and the fame.
  • Token Minority: Enforced by his bosses. Was hired to join the team specifically because he’s black.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Walks into a bar run by the Empire Eighty-Eight and later tries to start a fight.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The other members of the team only put up with him because they have to.

    The Colored Texts

The Blue Text AKA Primus.

The creator deity of the Cybertronians, and the source of Matrix's powers.
  • Big Good: As the source of Taylor's powers and an occasional advisor to her, he definitely fills this role.
  • Foil: To the entities. While Scion, Eden, and others of their kind choose to act as parasites toward any species they encounter and ultimately drive quite literally every alien race they've met to extinction, Primus wishes for his children to be peaceful with other intelligent life. While the entities deliberately encourage conflict through the shards, Primus often gives Taylor advice on how to defuse or deescalate conflict when possible.
  • Good Counterpart: To the entities, for reasons listed under Foil.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: Benevolent, but extremely limited in his ability to intervene on Earth-Bet.
  • Physical God: Is one. However, he's prevented from acting due to a: being stuck in the form of a planet and b: deliberately interfering with events on Earth could alert far worse things to the presence of mankind.

The Red Text

An unknown malignant force that speaks to capes around the world, encouraging them to be aggressive.
  • The Corrupter: Toward quite literally EVERYONE it speaks to. Whenever it speaks, it brings up people's insecurities, encourages them to take risks rather than play it safe, and encourages heroes to sacrifice their morals for the greater good.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Primus. See the foil entry lower on this page for more.
  • Foil: Just as Primus is a foil to the entities, the Red Text is one to Primus: while Primus tries to defuse conflict, the Red Text tries to escalate it. While Primus' advice usually comes off as compassionate and Brutal Honesty at worse, the Red Text is practically guaranteed to offer really bad advice in a condescending manner.

    The Undersiders

Grue

The leader of the Undersiders.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Arranged for him after he gets caught during the bank robbery, mostly due to PR and the fact he hasn't killed anyone.

Regent

  • Adaptational Villainy: He leaves Rachel to die during the fight with Lung. Interestingly enough, he was actually already this evil in canon, but never crossed the line because Taylor saving the Undersiders and joining them caused him to become more heroic. Here, with Taylor a member of the Wards, he has no reason to try and be a better person.
  • Psychic-Assisted Suicide: Uses this to dispose of a PRT officer guarding Tattletale.

Bitch

The muscle of the Undersiders.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: A variation - her death causes a huge amount of tension in the Undersiders, leading to the team's eventual fragmentation.
  • Death by Adaptation: Bites it during the battle with Lung. In canon, she lives all the way to the sequel.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Averted. Her death weighs heavily on the Undersiders and eventually causes them to fragment.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Has this reaction when Lung kills all of her dogs. Unfortunately, Lung is more than a match for her.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Dies in her first appearance.
