Characters / World Of Warships Pan Asia

Go To

Warships attributed to the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), Republic of China Navy (ROCN) and several other Asian nations in World of Warships.

The Pan-Asian navy is introduced as the seventh faction with the Tier VI Anshan (an Ex-Soviet Gnevny-class Destroyer). Actual Pan-Asian tech tree, a Destroyer line, was released in November 2017. Cruiser line was released in January 2022.

Being acquisitions from several other navies, Pan-Asian ships are wildly different in gameplay from each other. There is one constant, however - their unique deep-water torpedoes, that run too deep to hit destroyers, but are far more lethal to heavier ships, than most other torpedoes. These torpedoes are also very stealthy, meaning that the enemy won't spot them until it's too late. High-tier destroyers can also mount Surveillance Radar instead of Smoke Generator. Aside from PRC and ROC, the tech tree includes Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian and South Korean warships.

Researchable ships

    Pan-Asia Destroyers
Pan-Asia Destroyers are characterized mostly by being ships purchased from other navies. With the sole exception of Japan, Asian nations weren't known for strong naval forces during the twentieth century. They largely preferred second hand destroyers and other small boats for their versatility and economical nature.

Longjiang

Tier II Pan-Asian Destroyer

Phra Ruang

Tier III Pan-Asian Destroyer. Formerly HMS Radiant, a Thornycroft R-class destroyer which fought in the First World War as part of the Royal Navy. She was later sold back to Thornycroft on 21 June 1920, who then sold her on to the Royal Thai Navy in September 1920 where she was renamed Phra Ruang. Because of her continued service in the Thai Navy, the destroyer was the last of the R class destroyers to survive, being stricken from the Thai Navy list in 1957. It is reported that she remained in use as a training hulk and as of 2000 was still afloat, but has since been moved ashore and encased in concrete at a shrine to Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse.
  • Glass Cannon: Phra Ruang is a sneaky little bugger with low detect-ability range, good torpedo reload time and best speed out of all Tier 3 destroyers... at the expense of non-existent armor, low cannon shell velocity and painfully slow torpedo speed.
  • Fragile Speedster

Shenyang

Tier IV Pan-Asian Destroyer

Jianwei

Tier V Pan-Asian Destroyer

Fushun

Tier VI Pan-Asian Destroyer

Gadjah Mada

Tier VII Pan-Asian Destroyer
  • Master of All: Stealthy? Check. Good guns? Double check. Good torpedoes? Check. Her only real weakness is that her torpedoes cannot hit other destroyers.note

Hsienyang

Tier VIII Pan-Asian Destroyer
  • Enemy-Detecting Radar: She, Chung Mu, and Yueyang, in lieu of Defensive Fire, have the option to trade their smokescreen for Surveillance Radar, something no destroyer on the USN tech tree can do, with the exception of the premium Tier 9 destroyer USS Black, which not only gets Radar in its own slot instead having to compromise, but also retains the option of trading Engine Boost for Defensive Fire.

Chung Mu

Tier IX Pan-Asian Destroyer. Fletcher-class destroyers were the most numerous series of destroyers ever built, and are regarded as one of the most successful WWII destroyer designs. In 1963-1968 three Fletchers were sold to South Korea, where one of them served until 1989. Specifically Chung Mu used to be USS Erben (DD-631).

Yueyang

Tier X Pan-Asian Destroyer. American Allen M. Sumner-class destroyers were a developement of Fletcher-class, trading five single gun mounts for three dual ones. In 1969-1974 eight Allen M. Sumners were sold to the Republic of China, where some of them served until 2000. Specifically Yueyang used to be USS Haynsworth (DD-700).
  • Stealth Expert: Boasts the lowest detection radius of all the tier X destroyers.
    Pan-Asian Cruisers
Second line of Pan-Asian navy, scheducheled to be released in early 2022. Like Destroyer line, this line is composed entirely of foreign ships.
  • Alternate History: Only one ship in the line was ever given to any Asian navy. Other two cruisers were built, but their transference to Asian nations is pure fiction. The rest of the line was never even built by their original designers, let alone given to anyone.
  • Glass Cannon: They have Torpedo Reload, but has less HP than some same-Tier destroyers!
  • More Dakka: As a line of light cruisers, progressing up the tiers leads to ever increasing HE DPM values and reduced artillery reload speeds. Built for their artillery, ships like Sejong and Jinan can be very competent smoke-farmers and DD-hunters, held back only by their fragility and unreliability at long range (enter the torp-soup).
  • Smoke Out: The entire line gets Smoke Generator, to hide their fragile hulls.

Changan

Tier I Pan-Asian Cruiser. A small kaibōkan (escort ship) built in Japan during WWII, and later given to ROC as reparations.

Chungking

Tier V Pan-Asian Cruiser. She used to be HMS Aurora, an Arethusa-class cruiser, before being sold to ROC.

Rahmat

Tier VI Pan-Asian Cruiser. She is a British Dido-class cruiser, which in World of Warships' Alternate History was sold to Malaysia.

Chumphon

Tier VII Pan-Asian Cruiser. She is an American Atlanta-class cruiser, which in World of Warships' Alternate History was sold to Thailand.

Harbin

Tier VIII Pan-Asian Cruiser. She is a Soviet project MK-6, which in World of Warships' Alternate History was actually built and sold to PRC.

Sejong

Tier IX Pan-Asian Cruiser. She is an American project, which in World of Warships' Alternate History was actually built and sold to South Korea.

Jinan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wows_jinan.png
Tier X Pan-Asian Cruiser. She is an American project, which in World of Warships' Alternate History was actually built and sold to ROC.
  • Reused Character Design: She's basically Austin (known IRL as the planned, but unbuilt CL-154 design) under a different flag.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: With Torpedo Reload Jinan can launch 20 torpedoes per side almost at once. It's the same number as much-reviled Kitakami, by the way.

Premium ships

    Pan-Asian Premium Destroyers

Anshan

Former Soviet Gnevny-class destroyer Rekordny, and the first destroyer to serve in the PLAN. Currently preserved as a museum ship in Qingdao.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Downplayed. Often compared unfavorably to the Gremyaschy a tier lower, Anshan is nevertheless still superior to the Gnevny that sits at the same tier.

Lo Yang

  • Anti-Air: She is the only American destroyer listed under the Pan-Asian umbrella that gets the option of using the Defensive Fire consumable instead of Engine Booost. None of the three American destroyers on the Pan-Asian tech tree have access to it.
  • Enemy-Detecting Radar: She was the first destroyer introduced into the game that can mount the Hydroacoustic Search consumable, and remains the only non-German and non-British destroyer (These two nations received destroyer tech trees years after Lo Yang was added) to have it. Unlike the German destroyers, however, the stats for Lo Yang's hydro match the superior stats for the same consumable on the Admiral Hipper and Prinz Eugen. Only the Tier 10 German destroyer Z-52 has better hydro range than Lo Yang.
    Pan-Asian Premium Cruisers

Huanghe

Pan-Asian Tier 6 cruiser, and the first premium cruiser added to the Pan-Asian line-up.

Irian

Pan-Asian Tier 8 cruiser, of the Sverdlov-class.formerly Sverdlov-class cruiser Ordzhonikidze, the Indonesian Navy bought her from the Soviets in 1962 and recommissioned her KRI Irian in 1963. Most famously, British frogman Lionel Crabb suddenly disappeared when secretly inspecting the ship while it was docked in Portsmouth Harbor.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: She places a great deal more emphasis on her torpedo armaments than other cruisers, arguably even the Japanese. She can launch a broadside of five pre-nerf Yueyang torps and has a torpedo reload booster.
