The following is a list of characters from the 1977 film, Wizards.

    Avatar

The main protagonist of the film.

  • The Alcoholic: He's a pretty heavy drinker.
  • Barefoot Loon: He spends the entire movie barefoot, being a kind of a hippie-elf.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: A comical Dirty Old Man midget? Sure, but when Necron 99 assassinates the President in front of him, Avatar immediately stands up and deactivates him with a magical hand blast, all while giving the same sort of intense stare that Blackwolf constantly maintains.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Avatar is a very strong wizard, but regards the threat of his brother, the deaths of untold elves, and the destruction of the entire world with an attitude that states he really just doesn't care anymore.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Blackwolf's Cain.
  • Cigar Chomper: Often seen puffing on a stogie.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Rather than wasting time with an argument or an epic duel, Avatar (who made it clear earlier that he Doesn't Like Guns) simply shoots the Big Bad as soon as he gets the opportunity. With regards to why, he says "no matter what happens, I will die anyway" shortly beforehand. He was heartbroken by Elinore's betrayal, and lost faith in his own philosophy. That is, until AFTER the shooting... Anyway, you have to watch the film very carefully.
  • Covert Pervert: Given Elinore's outfit, it's hardly surprising what Avatar says when she sits down on his bed in front of him, asking what the plan is.
Avatar: Oh, why don't you sit there for a couple of hours while I figure it out?
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Good smoking. He conjures up cigars with magic to smoke.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Avatar isn't really much of a jerk but rather an old man who sometimes seems like a pervert, however he has a genuine heart of gold. He cares deeply for his friends and has noble intentions. He doesn't even want to really hurt his brother because he is family but has to when he has gone too far.
  • Lovable Rogue: Possibly what he's going for, as his use of telescopes and jukeboxes would seem to flaunt the technology ban, implying he doesn't take that rule very seriously. It eventually saves the day.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He sounds a great deal like Peter Falk.
  • Wizard Workshop: He dwells in a tower atop a promontory with a balcony with a segmented telescope, while inside are several odd creatures in cages, an upholstered easy chair, an ornate full-size bed, and a peculiar table with restraints and a tilting mechanism. The captured assassin Nekron 99 is lashed to this table to allow Avatar to conduct a "brain reading".
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: In contrast with his brother, the couple times Avatar's eyes are exposed, we see they're yellow, which fits someone whose plan was to sneak their way into Scortch.

    Blackwolf
Avatar's brother and main antagonist of the movie.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: With the obvious difference that he preaches mutant supremacy instead of Aryan, Blackwolf is for all intents and purposes a Nazi, as he consciously emulates Adolf Hitler, uses his propaganda to rally his forces, and exclaims "Sieg Heil" during his speech.
  • Beard of Evil: A very long Wizard Beard and evil as Hell.
  • Big Bad: He is the main villain of the movie whose actions drive the story.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Avatar's Abel.
  • Creepy Child: While Avatar was a Momma's Boy, Blackwolf enjoyed torturing animals.
  • Dark Is Evil: For starters, his name is Blackwolf. And he wears only black robes.
  • Death Glare: His default facial expression.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved:
    • It's implied Avatar still loves Blackwolf as his brother, even knowing all the evil things he did, to a point where Avatar almost considered suicide after shooting Blackwolf (there were other things that factored in that decision, but still.)
    • Blackwolf's own wife says she doesn't care about ruling the world and would be happy with him raising their son in Scorch. This ends when he announces his intention to kill their son for being a mutant.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Subverted: he has a wife who is expecting a child, and talks of giving them a better life outside of Scorch. However, when he learns his son will be a mutant, he casually decides to kill the boy and start again, to the great horror of the mother.
  • Evil Old Folks: He is a very elderly-looking Evil Overlord, though it's not like he was any better when he was younger (see Creepy Child).
  • Evil Overlord: Blackwolf is an evil tyrant that rules over the pleasant sounding land of Scortch.
  • Mutants: He is a mutant born from a fairy queen, and looks fairly inhuman with his grey skin, red eyes, and bony arms.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Talks a big game about the mutants conquering the good lands and them leading a better life, but ultimately he's just a power hungry bastard who wants to beat his brother and rule over everybody.
  • Paper Tiger: Talked up to be a major threat, yet, what does him in? Two shots from his brother's ordinary pistol.
  • Propaganda Machine: His Nazi propaganda projector is literally his greatest weapon, since he is able to rally mutants with it to invade the peaceful lands.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Another trait of his mutation and a sign of his evil.
  • Red Right Hand: As a result of his mutation, his arms are literally bony.
  • Skeletal Appendage: He's probably not undead, given how he bleeds when shot, but his arms are exposed bones.
  • Wasteland Warlord: As tyrannical overlord of the post-apocalyptic wastelands of Scortch.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When he finds out his son will be a mutant, he has no problem with killing the child and trying again.

    Elinore
A fairy princess whose father was killed by one of Blackwolf's minions and joins
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: It's revealed that she has been under Blackwolf's control all along ever since she touched Peace.
  • Damsel in Distress: Elinore gets captured halfway through the movie by a tribe of hostile fairies.
  • Fairy Sexy: She is the movie's designated Ms. Fanservice.
  • Love Interest: To Avatar. She seemingly becomes a Love-Interest Traitor halfway through the movie, but it's revealed she was brainwashed and they resume their relationship once again in the end.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Elinore is a very busty and curvy fairy wearing a transparent white gown. Her cleavage and about 90% of her skin is exposed. Also, her nipples even poke through her gown.
  • Nice Girl: A nice lady deeply worried about her people's survival.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: She is human sized for one, unlike all the other fairies in the movie (she claims she can't be a "full" fairy until Avatar finishes her training).
  • Stripperific: Elinore looks like a cute stripper with fairy wings. Her bust is easily shown and she is a very curvy and voluptuous woman.

    Weehawk
A noble elf warrior and loyal companion to Avatar and the others.
  • Badass Adorable: Weehawk is a little elf who is a badass with a sword.
  • The Berserker: He unleashes one hell of a battle-scream as he charges at Necron 99 early in the film, grieving after the robot killed his mount.
  • Combat Pragmatist
  • A Friend in Need
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is stubborn and no-nonsense, but he would never give up on the people he cares about and he is deeply noble.
  • The Stoic: Easily the most no-nonsense of the group.
  • True Companions: He is very loyal to his friends and is willing to protect them at any cost.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards his friends, particularly Avatar and Elinore.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Weehawk is a little elf who doesn't always succeed, however he is still a skilled marksman (marks-elf).

    Necron 99 / Peace
A red robot who was sent by Blackwolf to kill Avatar. He later changes to good and helps Avatar after he helps him.
  • Actual Pacifist: After his reprogramming, he just wants to leave his murderous past behind. He aids in defeating Blackwolf to do so.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Since he's front and center in the poster you'd think that he'd play an important role in the film right? Nope. He gets killed just before the final act of the film.
  • Killer Robot: Did nothing but kill for Blackwolf, until Avatar reprogrammed him.
  • Meaningful Name: Originally "Necron 99", Avatar renames him peace in hopes that he will bring some.
  • You No Take Candle: How he talks after being reprogrammed by Avatar.
