A Korean woman reincarnated as a side character intended to die at the hands of her fiancé, Raeliana McMillan is the main female character of the webtoon, who is determined to survive instead. In desperation, she goes to Duke Noah and offers a contract for a fake engagement to avoid her Doomed by Canon fate.

  • Action Girl: She has her fair share of awesome and badass moments that left everyone in shock, notably when she perfectly wielded a gun owned by Noah to corner her ex-fiancé.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Her brown hair is given a noticeably red tint in the anime.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Her hair got ruined, she tore her dress, ran a hefty distance to avoid her captors, and she should be looking like a mess, but she's still beautiful.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Her conversation with Noah often ends up with them snarking at each other.
Raeliana (to Noah): My, my, you're not my beloved fiancé. You are actually my unloved fiancé.
  • Dub Name Change: Her original name, Park Eunha, is changed to Hanasaki Rinko in the Japanese localization.
  • The Gadfly: Loves provoking Vivian Shamal.
    • Even more comedic, she acted in front of her being lovey-dovey with Noah just to irritate her. To make matters worse, she winked at her to annoy her more.
  • Girls with Guns: The quiet and meek Raeliana? Yeah, she just scared the hell out of her ex-fiancé by pointing a gun near his crotch.
  • Irony: Raeliana assumes she's a Romantic False Lead, having gotten engaged to Noah to escape death and was meaning to break it off and let Noah become an Official Couple with Beatrice. It turns out, had things gone the way they were supposed to, Eunha would have reincarnated as Beatrice, meaning she would have gotten together with Noah anyway.
  • Isekai: Eunha, the former life of Raeliana's soul, got transported in the current world after being pushed to her death from the top of a building by the goddess the real Raeliana made her deal with.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Her hair goes all the way down to her thighs.
  • Marriage of Convenience: She and Noah are only engaged because Raeliana wanted to escape her Doomed by Canon fate with her ex-fiancé.
  • Meal Ticket: She was this to her original fiancé Francis Brooks, a marquis hoping of taking her father's wealth as an oil baron.
  • Mistaken Message: She gave a handkerchief embroidered with a dragon to Sir Adam as a good luck token for the hunt. He and Noah thought she wanted them to hunt a dragon for her.
  • Omniglot: She can read and write all languages as a perk of her rebirth.
  • Romantic False Lead: What Raeliana assumed her role to be while Beatrice and Noah haven't met. She knew that they were supposed to be the Official Couple and thus, brushed off any advances Noah has for her as merely being The Tease. Ironically, she doesn't realize that she was meant to be the main female lead, but her soul was transferred into Raeliana's body instead of Beatrice's due to the original Raeliana's actions. Though as the story goes on, Raeliana does start falling for Noah for real...
  • Screw Destiny: In her original life, she was destined to die young, which came true. Once given a chance in her second, she does everything she can to fight her Doomed by Canon fate.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Raeliana is beautiful, but she just doesn't make efforts to make herself prettier. And when Monsieur Nick gave her a makeover...
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: She's the green-eyed redheaded protagonist.

    Noah Wyknight

Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara (Japanese), Ian Sinclair (English)

The famed Duke of Wyknight and the main male protagonist of the story. In the original timeline, he ends up with Beatrice, but due to Raeliana changing the original timeline to avoid her fate, he fell for Raeliana instead. He's Siatrich's younger brother.

  • Awful Wedded Life: What Noah thought about his parents' situation. His mother is a Manipulative Bitch who didn't care about nor even love his father and will do anything to make Noah the heir to the throne. She went as far as to poison Siatrich, which left him with leg problems. Meanwhile, his father is somewhat a person blinded by his love for his mother and will do anything that she desires. It's also the reason why Noah hated falling in love: he doesn't want to become like his father.
  • Battle Couple: He wields the sword and Raeliana wields the gun. They both kick ass and have shared moments of badass.
  • Becoming the Mask: Initially played along with the Marriage of Convenience until he fell for Raeliana for real.
  • Berserk Button: Attempting to kill Raeliana after his relationship with her develops. His brother finds out vocally what he is willing to do to those who push it. He openly threatens to kill anyone who goes near Raeliana after Vivienne is murdered and Raeliana is framed for her death... although luckily for him, suspicion is shifted to the true culprit swiftly afterwards.
  • Chick Magnet: Many are out for him and they didn't even consider his engagement with Raeliana a problem for that.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: When he started having feelings for Raeliana, he becomes this.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Loves to retort to Raeliana's snarky comments, which usually results in a Snark-to-Snark Combat.
  • Devoted to You: Despite many women fighting for his attention, his eyes are only set for Raeliana. Not even the original female lead Beatrice is able to sway him... although it makes sense, given she's now a completely new soul in the body meant for Eunha.
  • Marriage of Convenience: What Raeliana and him has originally planned with. He ends up falling for Raeliana in the end, effectively failing the deal that they talked about from the beginning. Although, considering that Eunha, the soul inside Raeliana's body was his destined soulmate the whole time, even if she had gone into Beatrice's body as intended, this may be considered a downplayed variant of this trope.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: He has eyes for no one else but Raeliana, or rather for Eunha, the soul inside Raeliana, as it turns out she was supposed to reincarnate as Beatrice and was always destined for Noah no matter whose body she took over. The original Raeliana, who hijacked the story by stealing Beatrice's body before Eunha's reincarnation, can't even win Noah over, further confirming that his heart belongs only to Eunha.
  • Succession Crisis: Noah is actually one of the heirs of the throne next to Siatrich. However, Noah's mother wanted him to usurp the throne, so she decided to poison Siatrich, which resulted in the guy having complications with his legs. Noah decided afterwards to throw his chance at the crown away and become the Duke of Wyknight instead, deliberately screwing with his mother's plans.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He's tall, black-haired and handsome.
  • Yandere: He does not tolerate any threat to Raeliana and has little qualm about plotting to assassinate someone on very little evidence to keep her safe. For the most part, he's a relatively minor example of this trope, only getting truly scary when Raeliana's life is in danger.

    Beatrice Tranchett (Unmarked Spoilers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beatrice_the_reason_why_raeliana_ended_up_at_the_dukes_mansion_1.png

The original female lead of the novel 'Beatrice'. In the original novel, she returns upon hearing of the death of her friend Raeliana and solves the mystery behind it. But Eunha as Raeliana ends up drastically altering the story by not dying, so she doesn't return until much later and when she does she seems oddly distant.

  • Fatal Flaw: Her self-pitying nature. Resigning herself to her fate makes her use dark magic to become Beatrice believing it to be her only way to survive and allowing the dark mage to convince her she had no other options to consider as to her fate both good and bad were static. This ends up trapping her in a desperate struggle to kill her original body due to her unstable soul in Beatrice's body which is actually supposed to be Eunha's, eventually leading to the death she was trying to avoid.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Raeliana, rather, Eunha, all but points out that regardless of the original Raeliana's fear of dying young, it is no excuse for her trying to kill her and continue to claim that it's never her fault that things are falling apart. Eunha points out that the original Raeliana had so many ways to defy her fate like confiding to her parents about her fear and cut off her engagement with Francis Brooks since her parents are clearly Good Parents who loved her and Rosemary is a sweet loving sister who wished for her happiness, but the original Raeliana instead took the chance to swap souls and lived Beatrice's life instead, willingly abandoning her loving family in favor of a more desirable life.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: It's very clear that, despite all the justifications the original Raeliana has for stealing Eunha's place as Beatrice in order to save herself, she was really just deeply jealous of her friend and how lucky she appeared to be in life, and when she realized she could have Beatrice's beauty and fate for herself, she jumped at the chance.
  • Karmic Death: By the end of the story, the Original Raeliana ends up shot dead by Eunha. Her attempts at escaping her fate by hijacking Beatrice's body and then trying to kill her original one all end with her ironically dead in Beatrice's body at the hands of the woman who was supposed to reincarnate as Beatrice.
  • Never My Fault: Every single thing she does, she has an excuse for it, or a reason why it's all Raeliana's fault things are going wrong, and she just needs to be quiet and die. Eventually she gets called out on this, right before Raeliana kills her. She points out that the original Raeliana had multiple chances to defy her fate without needing to use dark magic in the first place, but leapt at the chance to become the pretty, likeable and blessed Beatrice instead, regardless of the consequences it would have on Eunha and even herself.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about her without mentioning her connection to the original Raeliana and the current Raeliana's condition. Or rather, the fact she's actually the original Raeliana in Beatrice's body, and the main villain due to her desperate determination to kill Eunha and stabilize her own soul in its new, stolen body.

A poor marquis that Raeliana was arranged to marry for his title and the Starter Villain regardless of timeline. In the original timeline, he poisons Raeliana by giving her repeated doses of arsenic through her tea to take her family's fortune from her grieving family. In this timeline, Raeliana knows from her past life and refuses to go down without a fight.

  • Accidental Murder: He accidentally killed one of his marks, Sophia Langston after the former threatened to kill herself to make him take her back. He unintentionally pushes the knife she was holding to her throat to actually kill her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He presents himself as a proper and righteous man but he has plans to kill Raeliana and steal her family's wealth while they grieve. The reincarnated Eunha doesn't fall for it and lets him know.
  • Blackmail: Jake Langston, Sophia's older brother, blackmails Francis with his sister's murder to go along with his plan to kill and rob Raeliana.
  • Disposable Fiancé: He arranged to marry Raeliana with the consent of their families, but Raeliana becomes desperate to dump him thanks to her foreknowledge of his true nature. With knowledge that he intends to kill her and that he is working with his co-conspirator to do so, Raeliana is in the right to break their engagement the first chance she got.
  • Dirty Coward: He is perfectly willing to secretly poison Raeliana in varied attempts to kill her but easily cowed when she stands up to him (especially when she does so with a gun).
  • Failure Is the Only Option: His scheme to take the Mcmillan fortune would have failed regardless. In the original timeline, Beatrice exposes him as Raeliana's murderer. In the new timeline, Raeliana dumps him for Noah and they foil his kidnapping of Raeliana.
  • Gold Digger: Married Raeliana with the sole objective of killing her, stealing her grieving family's wealth and getting rich. She isn't even his first victim, just the first mark that he planned to murder.
  • Impoverished Patrician: While his family are noble and are respected that's pretty much the only thing they have.
  • Never My Fault: He insists that all of the attempted kidnapping and attempted murder was the result of a bad hand of faith. It isn't his fault, it was Sophia's for putting him in this situation!
  • Nobility Marries Money: And he would have succeeded in killing her and obtaining it were it not for getting caught in the attempt.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: He planned to murder his fiancee Raeliana by poisoning her to steal her family's fortunes.
  • Starter Villain: Raeliana's first and most vital objective in her new life is to eliminate the engagement and get rid of him before he can kill her for her money.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Despite Vivian's attitude, he does care for his sister. He was enraged at her death under Beatrice and later thanked Raeliana for getting revenge for Vivian in his stead.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Justin crushed on Raeliana for a while but unfortunately for him, his rival in Raeliana's affections is Noah.
